With our trip rapidly approaching elwing has had me doing a lot of extra things around the house to get ready - more than just packing and such, she wants to make sure that the yard is in good shape, everything is in order (just in case something terrible happens and people come by the house to commiserate with our children, they can say "Isn't that a nice lawn?"

I'd do the same thing, but the inside of the house has to be perfect too.
