RIP Paul Tibbets

#1 Post by themanintheseersuckersuit » Thu Nov 01, 2007 9:43 am

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Paul Tibbets, the pilot and commander of the B-29 that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, died Thursday, a spokesman said. He was 92.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

When I saw the post subject, I said "hmmm I don't know who he is."

He is a name I should know.

I think I did know this once.

May he rest in peace

Additional Educational Material

Here is an article in the local paper about the Enola Gay pilot:

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1 ... d=10173932

Interesting that Pea added "May be rest in peace", as the article specifically notes that he requested no headstone or even funeral, so that there would not be a place for misguided protestors to gather.

Interesting that Appa links resting in peace with headstones and funerals. If I have my way, there will be neither for me, as well, but I do plan on requiescating in pacem. I also think any protesters (watch that spelling, y'know) at my funeral would be much more likely to disturb my survivors' peace than mine.

MrK, by the end of your post, you seem to understand that I was linking "RIP" not with headstones and funerals, but rather with the actions of the protesters.

BTW, I never claim to be a good typist. :P

No funeral, really?

As for me, my funeral will be a party with music and laughter.

My friends will be celebrating my life, and Pea & Bix can celebrate my death. :P

I imagine that no marker might keep them from dancing on my grave.

Golly gee

You may be an arrogant asshole in my book and I do not even have you close to a list of people I would celebrate having died.

First you accuse me of hating you and now you accuse me of being able to celebrate your death.

Don't give me any of that winkie thingies. This is not the kinda stuff one wants to joke about - or tease.

When one uses two concepts in the same sentence, and those two concepts are joined by a preposition, I ordinarily assume some sort of linkage. There's more than one type of linkage, dontchaknow.

So your claim is that "protestors" is a typo, as opposed to a spelling error?

No funeral, really. Although it sounds as if you and I have similar ideas about what kind of memorial service we want to have, so I doubt if we're that far apart. To me, a "funeral," qua funeral, is a boring, somber affair, hence the adjective "funereal." What you're describing as a funeral I call a wake, which is what I want to have. With a portrait of me propped up somewhere, since my husk of a shell will be off somewhere being carved up for society's gain (at least I hope so.)

I think that I can call quite a few witnesses who will testify that there is very little thought going on when I type my posts. LOL!

I pride myself on my ability to spellify.

Gee willikers, I am sure that you never have insulted anyone else here, huh?

From the tenor of your posts and constant bashing, who is to say how you would react if someone posted, "Hey, Holtdad died."
Another HoltDadian response.

I think you are an arrogant asshole. That was not meant as an insult. Just as a fact.

Clearly, to paraphrase Bix, all of your beyotch-ness is merely the equivalent of dunking my non-existent pigtails in an ink well. :P  :P  :P  :P

So this is the second time Paul Tibbitts has been involved in a conflict going nuclear.
