Bryant Gumbel gone from NFL network broadcasts

#1 Post by macrae1234 » Wed Jul 16, 2008 4:27 pm

The NFL Network is set to announce Wednesday morning that Bob Papa will replace Bryant Gumbel as the play-by-play announcer for the league-owned network’s slate of regular season contests. Papa gives the network a veteran lead announcer, as he has handled New York Giants radio broadcasts since 1995. The move should appease football fans, many of whom did not favor the work of Gumbel, whose two years on the network reflected the fact he had never called an NFL game prior to landing the job. Papa will call the eight-game NFL Network slate alongside Cris Collinsworth, who also analyzes football for NBC and Showtime’s Inside The NFL.

Well that's good. Maybe he'll move out of my apartment building now.

Thank God Gumbel is gone. Those NFL Network broadcasts were almost unwatchable with Bryant Gumbel doing the play by play.

I like Gumbel fine for real Sports-type shows, but he was ungood at live football.

Almost too good to believe -- Packer and Gumbel canned in the same week!

How about Bill O being next?

Could it get that good?

Bill Stockboy and Brent Hamburger taking a hike would be nice.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Which made Gumbel the perfect choice since NFL Network broadcasts were literally unwatchable to most of the viewing public in the first place.....
