Celebrity 5th Grader starts tonight!

#1 Post by MarleysGh0st » Thu Nov 01, 2007 11:36 am

Three weeks of celebrity shows start with Regis Philbin and Clay Aiken playing tonight.

But there's one group of celebrities we won't be seeing.

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainmen ... and-1.html
Hillary Clinton isn't ready to admit she's not smarter than a fifth-grader.

The 2008 presidential hopeful, along with running mates Barack Obama and Rudy Giuliani, all turned down the opportunity to appear on a celebrity version of Fox's hit show, "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader."

"We thought it would be great to get at least one or two candidates that are running for President and see how they would do," "5th Grader" executive producer Barry Poznick told the Daily News.

"We thought this would be an awesome way for them to endear themselves to young families," said Poznick. "Hillary said no. Rudy said no. Obama said no. I mean, they were all scared, which I get. You don't want to come on and say I'm not smarter than a fifth-grader, but I want to be your President. But I kind of feel that if they did, it would humanize them."
I think submitting to be the target of a comedian's humiliation is one of those photo opportunities politicians are advised to avoid.

Besides, if Poznick isn't just making this all up, I thought game shows had a prohibition against having active candidates as contestants, to avoid being subjected to equal time rules.

You're right - YouTube would just love to have videos of the candidates unable to answer "5th grade" questions.

Somewhere I got the idea that the "equal time" provision had been eliminated.

And there's celebration in the streets. NOT!

Put W on the show without coaching, and I'll watch. Not before.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Rudy Giuliani would insist on answering every question with "9/11".

Joe Biden would insist on copying off the students on every question.

Mike Gravel, John McCain, and Fred Thompson couldn't do the show cuz it airs way past their bedtime.

Hope I can do this correctly! Nice that I don't have to remember the emoticon codes!

Regis hinted on today's Regis and Kelly that he did well, so I bet he beat Clay ... revenge for Kelly!

I wonder what he means by "well"? Considering that the kids can get a contestant up to $5K without the contestant knowing anything at all...

How are you feeling, dimmzy? You over whatever you had last month?

I wonder how Regis is going to do-it's been a LONG time since HE was in elementary school!
I'm just a game show nerd.
