It would be nice if Millionaire gives you enough money to buy a house; otherwise, finding a job might be a prerequisite.

Sometimes, one word can be a really big clue, Danyle.

Arrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh!

Don't select PAFs with a variety of strengths, don't pick one who can google, don't even gamble that one of them might just happen to know something completely unexpected by sheer, dumb luck. Leave a lifeline on the table and walk after answering three questions.

What a great gimmick skipping the first tier is turning out to be.

<grumble>®

BTW, Danyle, I guess a house with wheels isn't so bad...

I thought this would get a few grumbles. I heard her say parents, not grandparents! Wonder why she didn't have more phone a friends? Maybe it was one of those last minute calls.

I see the show at 8AM central so I have to sit on this kind of stuff all day.
It seems like skipping the first five questions has made it harder for these contestants. Maybe they don't have time to build up confidence. I dunno.

No idea on $16K. ATA and hope they're into hip-hop fashion.

Yeah. For us viewers, the first tier is a waste of time, but those questions do let the contestants warm up to the Hot Seat and get over the first attack of nerves. They get that first $1,000 and maybe save a lifeline, but they're losing that advantage, being thrown directly into deeper water.

It's all his fault. That'll be $10.

I don't mean to quibble with the BBTT, but this must be a mistake. A list of contest winners, and Timsterino's name isn't on it? There has to be a mistake somewhere.
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

That'll be $10, please.

This is the prime reason why I would like to see the pre $25K safe haven removed.

Nihil obstat®

And this is Rule #2 on putting together a PAF list: Please put in "friends" of different areas of expertise. If you have all grandparents on your list and a pop culture question comes up, you are up s**t creek without a paddle.

Very interesting spelling of her first name.

OK, she needs the money, but is that her hook for being on the show? How long between her taking the test and taping the show?

Oh, geez!

The only one of these I've heard of is FUBU but it's been around a long time (relatively speaking). Since I have no idea other than that, it's time to ATA and hope they do.

I don't understand why she didn't at least give it a try - her lifeline might have surprised her. Then again, maybe she didn't want to embarrass her lifelines by asking a question she knew they wouldn't know.

So she could have pulled an anti-John Carpenter move, "Hi, I really don't expect your help on this stupid question, but I just wanted to tell you that I'm walking with $8,000. You want to chat with Meredith for a while?"

Yeah, that would have been funny, but very few people would think of doing that. <Sigh> When I think of those who would love to have a chance at the Hot Seat I can't help but be somewhat dismayed to see someone walk away without using every possible lifeline.

I should also note that we've had two contestants (not counting Rachel) and the sum total given away was $24K. I really don't think that eliminating the first tier is going to have much of an effect on the eventual outcome. We will still people using their ATA even when they "have an idea" and "just want to make sure", and we'll still see those bizarre $16K and $25K questions that are guaranteed lifeline-burners.
