Transcript 09/11/08 - Lawrence Thomas

#1 Post by BBTranscriptTeam » Fri Sep 12, 2008 6:16 am

Lawrence Thomas
Playa del Ray, CA
Stand-up comedian

Lawrence has performed with Tim Allen, Ellyn DeGeneres, George Wallace, Chris Rock and Carrot Top. But no comedy gig has ever paid him $1 million.

Lawrence was driving across country with his ten-year-old daughter and shared some touching sentiments about the sunset they were watching, when he turned to look at her. She was bobbing her head, listening to music on her headphones.

This is an experiment with the transcript format. Instead of listing the answers at the bottom of the transcript, answers (along with the remaining clock time in seconds) will appear in a spoiler below each question. Your comments are welcome!

Possibly a MAWG®. Definitely a What Else®.

Easy stack for me so far.

Sports and jazz are the next two categories. Should be wheelhouse questions for me. I'm already contemplating using at least one lifeline on the $100,000 U.S. history question. The $250,000 Shakespeare question could suck out the rest of my lifelines.

When Michael Davies added the clock to increase pressure, he also ensured that the lifelines would be burnt more quickly. Here's another example where just a little more time for thinking would have allowed the contestant to save that ATA.

We've heard it said that they've given away more money in the early tapings than usual. I imagine that that's in spite of the new changes, not because of them.

Nihil obstat® for me.

New transcript format

As I mentioned in my previous post, the new transcript format with the spoilers instead of the lists of answers is a winner. I hope it stays for future contestants.

I have one other suggestion for the new transcript format:

Perhaps, in addition to the menu list, the topic could be included after the dollar amount -- ex. $4,000 Sports

That way, we can see if the question matches up pretty well with the menu topic. Handier than scrolling back, if it is not too much trouble to include. The full list would allow topics not reached to be listed also.

The full list does include all the questions in the stack, including those we never see. I suppose we could add the dollar amounts next to the topics, but the show doesn't even do it that way; they alternate images of the prize ladder with the topic list, making viewers figure it out on their own in the few seconds the list is displayed.

But I don't mind being more considerate of the viewers than TPTB!

I think what Winnamill is suggesting something along the following - in addition to the listing all the categories on top, include the category with the q, e.g.

$100 * Familiar Phrases
"3, 2, 1...we have liftoff!" is a phrase commonly heard at a what?

A: Space shuttle launch B: Baseball game
C: Graduation ceremony D: UFO abduction

Spoiler:

$200 * Acronyms
Used at an ATM or when making a debit card purchase, a PIN is what kind of "identification number"?

A: Processing B: Public
C: Partial D: Personal

Spoiler:

and so on...

Oh. OK!

I'll confess that Meredith included a brief verbal introduction to each of the PAF team, but I only recorded the captions from the baseball card display.

Another WE®. At least we haven't seen many WE/WE® contestants (yet).

It's a nihil obstat® stack so far.
