Andrew Klepner

Millionaire has been giving away Maytag washers and dryers all this week. With two young kids, Andrew could probably use them.

Andrew didn't plan to be on Millionaire; it was all his wife Tiffany's idea. Her advice for him is to "have fun and win big!"

Drives fire trucks! Oops, that's the Steve Martin version. . .
Question #3 - Level 8: Turtle Art (MAYTAG Question)
If the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made art inspired by their namesakes, which one would work exclusively in sculpture?

A: Michelangelo B: Raphael
C: Donatello D: Leonardo

Andrew jumps the question, thereby missing the chance to win the Maytag washer and dryer.
Answer/Value/Bank
C: Donatello
Question Value: $7,000
Bank: $10,500
OK, time to bore the audience again. Let's see, Michelangelo is famous for both -- his Pieta, David, and the Sistine Chapel for three famous examples. Raphael was well-known for his paintings, but I don't recall any sculpture. Leonardo of course is famous for the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper, and I don't know about sculpture. That leaves Donatello, final answer.
Question #4 - Level 6: Death From Above
Since 1984, the Army's primary attack helicopter has been named after what Native American tribe?

A: Navajo B: Blackfoot
C: Apache D: Seminole
Answer/Value/Bank
C: Apache
Question Value: $2,000
Bank: $12,500
I must have read this in a Tom Clancy novel because I knew it before the answers came up.
Question #5 - Level 3: Great Outdoors
The aptly named town of Thermopolis, Wyoming boasts that it is home to the world's largest what?

A: Mineral hot spring B: Redwood tree
C: Underground cave D: Granite deposit
Answer/Value/Bank
A: Mineral hot spring
Question Value: $100
Bank: $12,600
I almost went there, but passed it up, darn it.
Question #6 - Level 2: Game Time

A: Connect Four B: Stratego
C: Battleship D: Jenga
Answer/Value/Bank
C: Battleship
Question Value: $15,000
Bank: $27,600
I won't bore the audience with this one. Battleship, final answer.
Question #7 - Level 10: Assorted Past

A: Nintendo B: Sony
C: Canon D: Mitsubishi

Andrew jumps the question.
Answer/Value/Bank
A: Nintendo
Question Value: $5,000
Bank: $27,600
I do the same.
Question #8 - Level 9: Poetic Monotone
Just one of her many eccentricities, a popular legend states that Emily Dickinson exclusively wore what color for most of her adult life?

A: Black B: Purple
C: White D: Blue

Andrew feels like he knows it, but he's not 100%. He asks the audience.
ATA
A: 51% B: 17% C: 19% D: 13%
Andrew was thinking the same, but he's not confident. He has to walk away, with $13,800.
Answer
C: White
[/quote]

They're all in black and white, but every photo I've ever seen, which aren't many, shows her in a very light-colored dress. I think I would have been confident with white.

I've been there, done that! 8)

It's especially fun to enjoy swimming in the steamy outdoor pool in the middle of winter!

The Wyoming Dinosaur Center is also worth a visit, while you're in town.

I'll confess to the transcription error. If you'd like to take over the duty of transcribing medical terms with far more consonants than any word ought to need, that's fine with me. :|

Alternately, you could convince Time Warner to fix the software in their DVR so that it would stop displaying the "Pause" banner directly over the lower portion of the TV screen where the answer choices are displayed, which requires me to hit the Pause button, followed by the Instant Replay button, followed by the Pause button, and so forth, in order to attempt an accurate transcription. But at least my DVR has been recording the show this week, since their tech service people sent some signal that triggered a reboot of the machine.

My TW cable box has been downloaded to and rebooted 4 of 5 days this week. Usually, it's about every 4-6 months, or so. I don't see why their reboot process can't turn the box back on when it's finished. They piss me off.

I won't bore the audience with this one. Battleship, final answer.
At Chez Fanny's Family, the responses were usually "Ha!" and "Fuck....". Then again, any Lite Brite or Etch a Sketch left lying about was always in danger of being used for some pretty obscene artwork.

But we all turned out perfectly normal..... *twitch*
Question #8 - Level 9: Poetic Monotone
Just one of her many eccentricities, a popular legend states that Emily Dickinson exclusively wore what color for most of her adult life?

A: Black B: Purple
C: White D: Blue

They're all in black and white, but every photo I've ever seen, which aren't many, shows her in a very light-colored dress. I think I would have been confident with white.
Although the answer is obvious for anybody familiar with Emily Dickinson, I would take issue with the word "exclusively" because I seem to recall a pretty famous portrait of her wearing black. As a general rule, question writers should always stay away from stating absolutes....

They said "most of." Your picture was clearly from a part of her adult life different from most of it...

I have a similar issue with my TiVo. However, I can work around it by simply pressing the fast-forward (or rewind) button after the pause, which has the effect of advancing the picture a frame (or backing it up a few frames) and making the progress bar disappear. --Bob

The question was also phrased "a popular legend states," which is practically an admission that it's not true.

The question writers must be browsing Snopes for their material, now.

Oh, Sweet Lord, this. What a pain in the arse.

On a related note, everything is moved into the new condo just fine, and I'll be finishing Wednesday's transcripts this morning after I get off work.

Oh, boy, another "reluctant contestant" hook. Although it hasn't been used in a while.

I'm surprised he couldn't reason this one out. Surely he's heard of sculptures and paintings by Michelangelo and Leonardo and Raphael is exclusively a painter.

Yeah, I saw that after I had posted (I usually post first and then read the other messages in the thread). And I concur with your plaint about the black bar - when I pause my DVR the bar appears right over the four answers. I usually have to go back two or three times in order to get them all.

Gonna have to speak to the Ancient Greeks about that whole excess consonant issue! I am more than willing to forgive this one transgression for all the stellar transcription work you and others do every week.

As to cable companies and their plethora of issues I ain't going there.

But at least my DVR has been recording the show this week, since their tech service people sent some signal that triggered a reboot of the machine.
I have a similar issue with my TiVo. However, I can work around it by simply pressing the fast-forward (or rewind) button after the pause, which has the effect of advancing the picture a frame (or backing it up a few frames) and making the progress bar disappear. --Bob
