Here's a promo for Mark's appearance that was published yesterday. It includes a couple details that weren't mentioned during today's banter.

http://www.yorkdispatch.com/news/ci_19298186
Royce, 50, of Hallam, works in advertising and said he's been a fan of the quiz-game show since it debuted in 1999.
I bet he played the Phone Game!
Royce said his goal on the show was to win enough money to be able to pay for college education of his sons Elliot, 15, and Kevin, 12.
Hmmm. I don't think $10,300 is going to cover it.

Can't say I blame him, though - the audience's overall track record, it seems to me, has slipped somewhat since they switched to the Randomizer format. And $10K is a nice amount to have. Some other game shows have a big problem just trying to give away that much (Power of Ten, GSN's 1 vs. 100, Million Pound Drop...).

Question #1 - Level ?: Scene Stealers
What figures in Raphael's "Sistine Madonna" are often isolated and printed as a ubiquitous decorative poster?

A: Cherubs B: Shepherds
C: Saints D: Sheep
Answer/Value/Bank
A: Cherubs
Question Value: $10,000
Bank: $10,000
I must have seen this a million times but did not know the artist was Raphael. I would have been stumped the other way around -- "which of these artists painted the ubiquitous cherubs..." or something.
Question #3 - Level ?: National Wonders
Superior, Hot Road and Fata Morgana are three types of what natural phenomena?

A: Mirages B: Hot Road
C: Rock formations D: Rainbows

Mark hasn't heard of any of these and none of them make sense to him. He jumps the question.
Answer/Value/Bank
A: Mirages
Question Value: $15,000
Bank: $12,000
I knew Fata Morgana because they've come up in a couple of books I've read. I don't remember the others.

Question #5 - Level ?: City Symbols
In the 1970s, graphic designer Milton Glaser created an iconic logo when he sketched an "I," a symbol of a heart and what letters?

A: LA B: NY
C: DC D: STL
Answer/Value/Bank
B: NY
Question Value: $500
Bank: $15,500
I thought this Q, or some form of it, came up years ago.
Question #7 - Level ?: Ivy League Law
John Grisham had to rewrite 100 pages of his book, "The Associate," after learning that which Ivy League school does not have a law school?

A: Harvard University B: University of Pennsylvania
C: Princeton University D: Cornell University

Mark jumps the question.
Answer/Value/Bank
C: Princeton University
Question Value: $1,000
Bank: $20,500
By some miracle, I can figure this out. Harvard Law School is pervasive, and Marley tried to get Clem to go to Cornell. Finally, Wharton is at the U of Penn. Whew!
Question #8 - Level ?: Just Say No
What first lady made popular the anti-drug slogan "Just Say No"?

A: Betty Ford B: Rosalynn Carter
C: Barbara Bush D: Nancy Reagan
Answer/Value/Bank
D: Nancy Reagan
Question Value: $100
Bank: $20,600
One of those where it helps to be around on planet for a few years. . .
Question #9 - Level ?: Sylvester's Son
Sylvester Stallone gave his oldest son what intense sounding name?

A: Swain Helix B: Sargent Valor
C: Silas Dagger D: Sage Moonblood

Mark asks the audience.
ATA
A: 6% B: 20% C: 29% D: 45%
Mark would rather not risk it. He walks with $10,300.
Answer
D: Sage Moonblood
Ugh! ATA, or JTQ? That kid's gotta be in his 30s by now. I don't think I'd remember it, if I ever knew it, and no way to figure it out. 45% -- not very convincing on a pop culture Q. Probably ATA and then JTQ also.

Yes, Princeton has no law school, but the three most recent Supreme Court Justices are all Princeton grads. -- J. Arnon '75

Wharton is Penn's business school. (Donald Trump went there.) But Penn also has a good law school.

Then I got it right for the wrong reason. I usually get it wrong when I apply incorrect reasoning.

Well, they did accept Wintergreen. --Bob

Maybe Mark should be introduced to MBFFB.

I've heard the term "fata morgana".

It's an easy get, but what does eating hair have to do with growing it to extreme lengths?

No idea. I don't think the audience will, either, so I JTQ.

I don't know. I'd probably ATA and then JTQ if the results aren't good. As they actually turned out, I'd still JTQ because that 45% doesn't strike me as strong enough.

I've heard the term "fata morgana".
I believe they've asked a WWTBAM question about that before.

I hadn't heard any of the terms before, but couldn't imagine "Hot Road" applying to any of the 4 but mirages. I've seen them on drives to Vegas and/or Arizona.

We were out in the middle of the Painted Desert, and Mom saw an ocean mirage, complete with sailboat with striped sails. It lasted only a few seconds.
