Broadway Week

Josh Baer
Gastonia, NC
Music pastor

Josh has already banked $15,600 and won tickets for one row of the audience. Josh is feeling great. His family plays a lot of trivia and he practiced a lot before coming on the show. "They're all easy if you know the answers," Josh says. His wife Christie, sister Andrea and mom and dad Danny and Debbie are in the relationship seats. His three children couldn't be with them - one of them is named Meredith. He has another daughter named Madison and a son named Jackson. Jackson suggested that his dad bring a cheat sheet, which is why his father is wearing a tie - to hide the answers. Josh has his ATA and one JTQ lifeline remaining.

$100K - What Beatles hit started out as a campaign song for Timothy Leary, who was running for California governor against Ronald Reagan?
A - Here Comes the Sun
B - Come Together
C - Let it Be
D - Get Back

Josh doesn't know this right off the top of his head. He's familiar with both men. All the answer make sense so he decides to ask the audience.
ATA results
A - 18%
B - 71%
C - 4%
D - 7%
Josh says that's a big number. Josh has great respect for the audience but this is a higher-level question. All the answers still make sense to him. There are a lot of ways it could work. Josh decides that he might go with the audience's answer. Josh didn't give a lot of thought about what he'd do if he got this far. It's a total shot in the dark and a complete gamble, but Josh doesn't advocate gambling - except in this situation. He finally decides to go for it.
Spoiler
B (Come Together)
After the answer is revealed a reaction shot of Josh's famiily is shown.
commercial break

Some of the audience members during the break asked Josh to take them to lunch. Josh told a lot of people that he was going to be on the show. With the money he wants to take his wife on a honeymoon trip because 13 years ago they had a modest honeymoon. Meredith notes that Josh has no lifelines so he's on his own, but then adds that as a pastor she thinks someone has Josh's back.

B - Washington
C - North Carolina
D - Louisiana

Spoiler
Washington, because it's on the west coast and probably doesn't get a lot of attention.
But that seems too easy. His gut is telling him it is
Spoiler
Washington - he thought it would be that or Alaska. But Illinois makes sense because Chicago is on the north side and the rest of the state could feel neglected. Louisiana has New Orleans but the capital is more centralized. Now Illinois is making more sense.
North Carolina doesn't make any sense to him. Chicago is where everything happens in Illinois.
Josh would be risking $75,000 to gain $150,000 and as much as he would like to go for it he decides to walk away with the $100,000.
Spoiler

Let's see if this succumbs to process of elimination. Exxon Valdez -- no way is Tom Brokaw present at that scene with a microphone and a camera. Same with Tianamen Square, although for different reasons; pretty sure that the only images coming out of Beijing at that time were hijacked by the protestors -- certainly not from a well-known person like Brokaw. Nelson Mandela's release could be it. I saw a little of the coverage of both events -- very little. I was taking a couple of night classes at the time, and we talked about the Berlin wall falling in one of them -- no mention of Brokaw, of course. I dunno if I could have pulled the trigger on Brokaw with such a great distractor. Let's say I did just so I can go on.

But Jackson, your father is a preacher and preachers wouldn't stoop to cheating.

Running through the lyrics, "Here comes old flat-top" struck me right away as a reference to Reagan and his hair style.

I eliminated Louisiana because they have parishes, not counties. From the comfort of my recliner I guessed correctly but would have used my second JTQ on this one.
