I associate Locke with "tabula rasa" and that made me think it was "alphabet blocks". Whether I'd have had the guts to go for it, however, I can't say.

Props to Terri for going with her gut. I'd have used a JTQ.
I wish they had revealed what the unrandomized difficulty level was for this question. I went with a logical hunch, that the only one of these choices that might be related to death or mortality--in any culture--would be a clock. If it had been any of the other choices, it really would have been a wicked question!
