She was counting but not correctly, evidently. Interesting that this question came up in a month that had a Friday the 13th (and started on a Sunday).

It's even easier to go the other way.

You know that whatever day of the week is the 1st, the 8th and 15th will be the same day. Friday the 13th + 2 = the 15th = Sunday.
A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five.
