Mike Rowe
Star of “Dirty Jobs”

Mike is playing for the Mike Rowe Works Foundation.
$28,600 and one JTQ remaining
He is wearing the same outfit as yesterday and promises that he changes once a week.

Topic Tree: (randomized)

10 Galactic Math
$5000
$2000
$10,000
$100
(jumped $25K)
$500
$3000
$7000
$1000

Question 10 - Level 10 Galactic Math
Created by Frank Drake, the Drake Equation is a formula used to estimate the number of what in the Milky Way?
A. Black holes B. Advanced civilizations
C. Invisible dimensions D. Dwarf stars
JTQ2
Mike said he thinks dwarf stars are tiny stars. Mere said she could not or is not allowed to confirm.
He went over the possibilities with Meredith and said if he goes for it and gets it he would be seen as gutsy but if he misses he would be foolish
He said he has a gut feeling but when asked for it, that gut feeling is only that he does not know.
He said if he cannot do the math between $28600 and $25000 he should not be messing with dwarf stars and black holes.
He was deciding between A and D, he really does not think it is B and how could you prove C?
JTQ 2
Answer and value
B. Advanced civilizations
Value: known to be $15,000
Bank: $28,600

Question 11- Level $100K
Whose car was once stolen and is said to have been returned with the note, "If we'd known it was yours, we never would have taken it"?
A. Rudy Giuliani B. Steven Seagal
C. Mister Rogers D. 50 Cent

(some audience laughter)
Spoiler
Mike was reminded of his $28600 bank, $25K fallback, and $100K question value. Mere said Mike might find it worth it to gamble here, but does not have to.
Mike figured it would be extraordinary to steal Rudy Giuliani's car as he was mayor unless it was really recent and he was not sure the show would be that current. Mere said the show tends to be very current but that does not necessarily mean it could be Rudy.
Mike figured it would not be Steven Seagal since if you stole his car, he would find you and eat you. He figured it would not be 50 Cent, that's a half a dollar, who steals that, he's a rapper right?
Mike figured a thief would not feel so bad about stealing from Seagal or 50 Cent but would feel bad about stealing from Mr. Rogers
Mike went for Mr. Rogers
Answer and value
C. Mister Rogers
Bank: $100K
Commercial break

Mike said they have a really annoying show here. It is because people have to be careful and he is not used to being careful.
Mere asked if that means he would go for it if he is not sure and Mike said he does not mean that.

Question 12 - Level $250K
Cloned by European scientists in 1996, what breed of sheep was the world-famous Dolly?
A. Delaine Merino B. Finn Dorset
C. East Friesian D. Rambouillet
Spoiler
"I've done a lot of unfortunate things to sheep...in my day job" but not gotten on a first-name basis with any of them.
It would probably be a European breed but that does not help
Mike complained about the heartbeat pounding sound (background music) and said if it was his heart he would have to call the doctor immediately
Mike said there is something he is leaning towards, but it is not one of the answers.
Mike decided to leave with $100K
Answer and value
B. Finn Dorset
Bank: $100K- Walk
Commercial break

First bumping this up..

Question 10 I thought simply "stars" before the choices. Then the memory of Carl Sagan's reference in "Cosmos" came back to me, where he speculated on the variables and said either only a few civilizations are out there or perhaps many thousands waiting to hear from us...

$100K JTQ. Right one seemed logical but at this level who knows?

$250K with a 50/50 gut feeling (B or D were jumping out). If I had only $43,600 I'd go for it for sure. I found Rambouillet the stronger gut so I would have lost.

Well either it's a "uniform" of sorts or the tapings were done on the same day.

I knew this one before the answers were revealed. It has been featured in several TV shows (most recently The Big Bang Theory) and supposedly it was used by Gene Roddenberry to convince TPTB at CBS that Star Trek was feasible (in terms of intelligent life in the galaxy).

Well, I still have ATA left, and I'll use it although I don't think it will do any good.

And he didn't want to bother playing by the same "bring a change of clothes so we can pretend it's a different day" rules that everyone else is told to follow.

I noticed some ad that's running now, where he's wearing the same shirt and hat. So maybe it is kind of a uniform. Minus all the mud and gunk that's usually covering it. :P
