THe blue was proposed as the border of the flag, as well as three maple leaves, in the orginal design proposed by Mike Pearson in 1964. After debate through most of the summer and fall, an agreement was reached to revise the design with a committee and artists' help, which simplified it to the current flag.

IIRC.

It's hard to believe today that there was such a brouhaha over getting rid of the Union Jack. Our flag now is one of the most distinctive in the world.

That it is. When Aunt Merna and I were on Normandy Beaches, we wanted to see the Canadian Memorial. We went right to it because of the flag, only to find a plaque which said that construction on the memorial would begin the following year.

The beaches of Normandy just sent a chill up my spine when I was there.

Quite an impressive place.

My younger brother and I were there separately, and we both cried. Thinking about Dad, mostly, and how there wouldn't be any Sprots or SprotsBrother if he'd been in that cemetery.

I know! Allen's dad got to Omaha Beach D-Day +12!!

He came home, but unfortunately was an alcoholic. Often wondered if it
was the war that caused it.

Someone should do a study to decide what it means if one said white and red vs red and white.
