WWTBAM Bored

Out of left field..The 80's group The Hooters return..well actually, they apparently have been releasing albums all along behind our backs...but I was alerted to their latest, "Time Stands Still".A most excellent disc..The singer's voice has developed..umm..."character"..somewhat croaky but not hard to listen to. The first couple of tunes are meat and potato rock, then it shifts stylistically into roots rock, Americana, folk, some Celtic influence, even a sea shanty..all woven into a pop-rock base. They do a slowed down version of "The Boys of Summer" which is actually sung with more passion than Don Henley's original. I don't know if I'd say I like it better than the original, but I CAN say that, between the arrangement and the vocal performance, the lyrics really stand out in this version.

I'm listening to the classical station my host's radio is tuned to because I can't figure out the controls to find KHOW or KYGO.

I turned it on by hitting the FM button. I better be able to find the Off button because I can't listen to this all night.

Well, I could, but I'd be asleep.

I'm listening to Annie humming.

It's tuneful, but you can't dance to it, so I give it a 65.

I have been alternating between "Mamma Mia!" and the Fratellis' new album "Here We Stand."

I should try to record Annie's singing sounds. I have a camcorder now, so I will try to use it for Art.

Other things that I have been digging lately:

"Vagabonds" -Gary Louris (leader of Alt-Country band The Jayhawks)

The new Coldplay disc "Viva la Vida"--hands down their best imo..so much more depth and texture

"Insides Out" by Jordan Zevon..Warren's son. Good pop music.

"Freedom Wind" by Explorers Club. Very young band doing impeccable Beach Boys type music.

"Big Blue Ball" new world music project featuring Peter Gabriel, Sinead O'Connor, the guy from World Party whose name is escaping me, and lotys of musicians from all over the world whose names I've never heard.

Bought a couple others I haven't listened to yet.

Also still can't get the Panic at the Disco cd out of my player. Easily my favorite of the year.

Dolly Parton's Slow Dancing with the Moon is lined up and ready to go to help me sleep.

I like to listen to music to help me sleep.

Oh, and I just got The Doo Wop Box Three as an early birthday present from my brother, which I will listen to this weekend. I have the first two, now I have the trilogy.

ALSO - Collectibles Records has a series of boxed sets that have really good books with them Can't remember the name, though. My cousin has them.

We love the Doo Wop boxes!!!

So does my 3 year-old grandson! My daughter (who loves Doo wop) puts 'em on, and Zacky dances around like he's on one of those reality dance shows, and tries to sing along..hilarious to watch.

The other day, I was listening to KROQ in the morning. The morning DJs were talking to Jessica, who had won a concert by Coldplay at her house. She said that the first thing that Chris Martin did when he came to her house is ask to use the Loo.

Anyway, they let her pick the songs that they played. They asked her how many songs she wanted and she just said, "however many you want to play." They ended up playing five or six songs, but she didn't ask for "Viva La Vida."

Now that FNGD's over, if I were home I would put on some dumb movie on TV I've seen a couple times and hit the Sleep button for 30 minutes -- and be alseep long before then.

I wish my hosts were home instead of Vermont. It's lonely here without them. I think I should go adopt them a kitten tomorrow morning so I can have her for company tomorrow night.
