B - The arbitrary scoring tables used for the Mens Decathlon used currently yield a world record performance of around

1 - 900; 2 - 7000; 3 - 9000; 4 - 97000

G - The arbitrary scoring tables for the Women's Heptathlon yield a world record performance of around

1 - 900; 2 - 7000; 3 - 9000; 4 - 97000

3 and 2 is correct.

Your athlons are in the right place.

By contrast, the equally arbitrary set of numbers generated to measure chess players puts club players around 1500-1800, national masters 2200, and world champions IIRC about 2600 2700.

(arbitrary, but with a statistically generated set of rules for gain and loss of points with each tournament game result).

I always thought my oldest son, a hurdler, would have made a good decathlete. They don't compete in decathlon in university meets in the U.S., though.

You compete in college at the events you do the best, and you hope to have parental support or some kind of developmental sponsorship after college so you can work on the rest. The USOC provides encouragement and training camps to those athletes that show great promise.

Many decathletes go to international meets to get experience.
