FNGD Q2 - FRIDAY OCTOBER 10, 2008

#1 Post by etaoin22 » Fri Oct 10, 2008 9:10 pm

LISTENING ALL NIGHT TO THE RADIO.

There were two great stations to hear from the US audible in Ottawa late at night, WABC from New York and WBZ from Boston.

B - The late Charley Greer on the overnight stint at WABC had one sponsor with many, many commercials, since it was open that late at nightL:

"Dennison, the _____________, Route 22, Union New Jersey, where money talks and nobody walks. Open 24 hours, open now."

1 - Friendly supermarket
2 - Famous Ford dealer
3 - Mens' clothier
4 - Furniture Emporium

G - The very nice guy on overnight at WBZ fooled me more than once in the summer of 1965,with his story about his watch needing a new second hand: then seguing to this middle-of song lyric

"I bought at the second-hand store
The way this old town laughs at me
I just cant take it no more
I'm going away.
Baby I'll be back some day..."

Who did this song?

Friendly supermarket. I just can't imagine any of those others staying open 24 hours. Well, maybe furniture emporium.

Cancel supermarket. Furniture, final answer.

Men's Clothier.

Baby Don't Go - Sonny and Cher AKA Caesar and Cleo (original release somtime before)

The song made about #10 after "I Got You Babe" peaked IIRC at #1.

They say that wiseguys and other such needed to buy new suits at three in the morning not infrequently in those days, after the old ones got covered.
