Mom has passed

#1 Post by a1mamacat » Sun Mar 26, 2017 6:02 pm

for those not on Facebook, Mom passed away this morning at 2 am. From ER visit to End of Life was 7 days and about 12 hours.

She was able to be at home, as she wanted, with Dad and I there the whole time. My brother was there as much as possible. She was able to speak with all the grandchildren before her communication ability ceased on Thursday night.

Thursday morning, she could no longer walk, even with a walker, and was confined to bed. By Friday afternoon, she could no longer swallow, so the morphine was changed to a subcutaneous shunt thingy. I was her morphine provider, every 2 hours.

My niece arrived from out of time on Saturday afternoon, and she and her sister were able to sit with Mom and say their goodbyes. James had been out several times already, and was there as well.

At 2 am today, nestled up with my Dad in bed, she left us for her well deserved rest.

I am so tired, but grateful for all the prayers and love that were sent.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I am glad about the parts of this that went as well as they could, and sorry for parts that didn't.

For the family to be able to say their goodbyes and express their love and be there to help make the transition for the loved one as easy as possible is a gift that cannot be measured. That it did not drag on for a long painful time is also a merciful thing for all concerned.

It's still painful of course, but I hope those things bring you a measure of comfort in the times ahead. Peace to you and yours.
