What a truly nasty question! Were they over budget on prizes this year or something? I want to know how recent that report was to the taping date. This guy should ask for a mulligan.BBTranscriptTeam wrote:Mitch Baker

$16K: It's either Kandahar or Islamabad. One is in Afghanistan, the other is in Pakistan. But I couldn't remember which. PAF.
$25K: Lifelines would not have helped me here. I knew the audience wouldn't have a clue on this one, and I knew that the 50:50 would leave the two answers I was thinking--$38K and $48K. I would've said $38K and lost.

Yes, that was a WWOQ. That figure is one of countless statistics that may get mentioned in the newspaper that nobody bothers to remember. And how can you reason it out? First, you need to estmate how many households have two incomes, then estimate the median individual income, then...gsabc wrote:What a truly nasty question! Ironic, though, that two employees of the IRS should be tripped up over this. If there's one organization that knows the answer...
Earlier on, I had the "Imagine" question down to a 50/50 in my head--politics or countries--but I'd probably have to burn the ATA on that, rather than risk having the 50/50 leave those same two choices.

There's no way I'd miss the "Imagine" question, but instead of immediately thinking of the song, I thought of the scene from "Forrest Gump" where Forrest and John Lennon are both guests on the "Dick Cavett Show".MarleysGh0st wrote:Yes, that was a WWOQ. And believe it or not, I actually knew the $48,000 number close enough to be confident in that choice. I didn't know the number exactly, of course, but from reading those articles year after year, I did know that the median income was creeping up on $50,000 but had not yet passed it.
I agree that it's ironic that two IRS employees didn't get this one. Those articles invariably cite IRS statistics.

Re: Transcript 04/14/08 Mitch Baker
Do they specifically mention "countries" in that scene? I had a pretty strong hunch about that, from remembering the "all one people, living life in peace" bit, but me trusting a hunch on a Lyrically Speaking question would be asking for a Walhal moment.slam wrote: There's no way I'd miss the "Imagine" question, but instead of immediately thinking of the song, I thought of the scene from "Forrest Gump" where Forrest and John Lennon are both guests on the "Dick Cavett Show".

A quick Google check says "no".MarleysGh0st wrote:Do they specifically mention "countries" in that scene? Gump mentions that the people in China don't have anything, Lennon says "No possessions?". Gump says that the people do not go to church, and Lennon says "No religion too?" Dick Cavett says "Hard to imagine", and Lennon says, "It's easy if you try, Dick."

I'd have had to use the PAF for this one.
