Lyrically Speaking - 2/7/18

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Wed Feb 07, 2018 3:17 am

Here is a bit of an unusual LSWE game.... especially since this is Wednesday and you're used to seeing a Merry Man here. Below are 12 songs... but for the concept of this game, think of them as three quartets... 1-4, 5-8, and 9-12. Songs 1, 5, and 9 are the key songs to each grouping, and you should quickly see why the three songs that follow each of them fit in. This game isn't supposed to be tricky or clever or anything like that... there are no theme points, and I think most of you will get enough songs to be able to easily recognize what's going on here. This is just the kind of weird anomaly you notice from time to time when you've been putting these games together for over a decade, and I've been wanting to put these oddities into a game for a while now. So, here it is....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. I'm getting lost in a crowd.
Hear me crying out loud.
Just want you to know.
I know that you have to go.
It's all up to you but whatever you do

2. Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand

3. We're talking away
I don't know what I'm to say
I'll say it anyway
Today's another day to find you
Shying away

4. Know it sounds funny but I just can't stand the pain
Girl, I'm leaving you tomorrow

5. I get frightened in all this darkness
I get nightmares I hate to sleep alone
I need some company a guardian angel
To keep me warm when the cold winds blow.

6. Take that look of worry, mine's an ordinary life
Working when it's daylight
And sleeping when it's night

7. now it's time to say good night to you
now its time to bid you sweet adieu
baby, drink a cheers to yesterday
and maybe you'll drink your tears away

8. My 16th birthday I was so shy
Not yet a man but ready to try
Music playing people saying
I looked around she caught my eye

9. Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we'd get there someday

10. We've been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again

11. I saw you dancing out the ocean
Running fast along the sand
A spirit born of earth and water
Fire flying from your hands

12. It's just no good anymore since you went away
Now I spend my time just making rhymes of yesterday

Couldn't help it, since I had just been looking for potential matches in your current game before I played this one. I'm hampered there by my lack of general knowledge of actors in movies. Even though it's been going on for a while, I don't want to turn it into an Easter Egg hunt on imdb.

[spoiler="weird anomaly" . . . I'm doomed . . .]
littlebeast13 wrote:Here is a bit of an unusual LSWE game.... especially since this is Wednesday and you're used to seeing a Merry Man here.

Take It Easy on Me, . . .hope I don't need the artist as I proceed toward my doom . . .

2. Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand

Take it Easy, Eagles

So the next one will be Take It!

3. We're talking away
I don't know what I'm to say
I'll say it anyway
Today's another day to find you
Shying away

Close -- Take on Me, Ah Ha

4. Know it sounds funny but I just can't stand the pain
Girl, I'm leaving you tomorrow

This is Easy like Sunday Morning. But it can't be. I'll guess

Easy

5. I get frightened in all this darkness
I get nightmares I hate to sleep alone
I need some company a guardian angel
To keep me warm when the cold winds blow.

I'm doomed.

6. Take that look of worry, mine's an ordinary life
Working when it's daylight
And sleeping when it's night

7. now it's time to say good night to you
now its time to bid you sweet adieu
baby, drink a cheers to yesterday
and maybe you'll drink your tears away

8. My 16th birthday I was so shy
Not yet a man but ready to try
Music playing people saying
I looked around she caught my eye

9. Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we'd get there someday

You're Still the One

10. We've been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again

You're Still the One

11. I saw you dancing out the ocean
Running fast along the sand
A spirit born of earth and water
Fire flying from your hands

12. It's just no good anymore since you went away
Now I spend my time just making rhymes of yesterday

One is the Loneliest Number, Three Dog Night. That's not my final answer. Here it is:

One, Three Dog Night.

Kroxquo Bonus: For 10 points, can you come up with another quartet of songs (with artist) that satisfies the theme of this game? You may reuse an artist(s) that appears in this game if you need to.

Dancing on the Ceiling, Lionel Richie
Dancing the Night Away, Leo Sayer
Dance the Night Away, Van Halen
Night Moves, Bob Seger

I had to look up 2 and 3, but I want the 10 points anyway.

TAKE IT EASY-E! A! G! L! E! S! EAGLES!!! (Obviously, not the Philadelphia Eagles, but the band Eagles.)

HARD TO SAY-Dan Fogelberg
I'M SORRY-Brenda Lee (or, even though they're different songs, John Denver)
SAY-John Mayer

1. I'm getting lost in a crowd.
Hear me crying out loud.
Just want you to know.
I know that you have to go.
It's all up to you but whatever you do
Take It Easy On Me - Little River Band (I purposely picked from the chorus to help everyone out in getting this song since it was one of the keystones.... fat lot of good that did.)

2. Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Take It Easy - Eagles

3. We're talking away
I don't know what I'm to say
I'll say it anyway
Today's another day to find you
Shying away
Take On Me - A-ha (The one song in the game that gave you wiggle room on the Krox in only having to find songs with subsets of the words in the first song, as long as they were in the same order)

4. Know it sounds funny but I just can't stand the pain
Girl, I'm leaving you tomorrow
Easy - Commodores

5. I get frightened in all this darkness
I get nightmares I hate to sleep alone
I need some company a guardian angel
To keep me warm when the cold winds blow.
Take Me Home Tonight - Eddie Money & Ronnie Spector

6. Take that look of worry, mine's an ordinary life
Working when it's daylight
And sleeping when it's night
Take Me Home - Phil Collins

7. now it's time to say good night to you
now its time to bid you sweet adieu
baby, drink a cheers to yesterday
and maybe you'll drink your tears away
Home Tonight - Aerosmith

8. My 16th birthday I was so shy
Not yet a man but ready to try
Music playing people saying
I looked around she caught my eye
Tonight - Kool & The Gang

9. Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we'd get there someday
You're Still The One - Shania Twain

10. We've been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again
Still The One - Orleans

11. I saw you dancing out the ocean
Running fast along the sand
A spirit born of earth and water
Fire flying from your hands
The One - Elton John

12. It's just no good anymore since you went away

One - Three Dog Night

Kroxquo Bonus: For 10 points, can you come up with another quartet of songs (with artist) that satisfies the theme of this game? You may reuse an artist(s) that appears in this game if you need to. - If you had a first song that contained (in the same left to right order) all three of the titles of your following songs in it, you got the 10 points. I know coming up with this was hard, so I overlooked the outside help this time... and thank you everyone (well, I'd assume everyone) for being honest about it...

Image Bonus: Show me a visual interpretation of the theme of this game. - Babushka dolls seemed to be the only obvious image to use here (though even that is technically not an accurate representation of the theme)... and most of you did that. Of the couple outside the box entries... I agree with Frank. mrkelley's unauthorized use of his likeness was perfect... slightly better than Vandal's panties. So mrk gets the IBB...

JJC Points:

Vandal gets 3 JJC points for no meaning yes...

BiT gets 2 JJC points for something not too far away from the actual theme...

mrk gets 3 JJC points for the master of word games...

Beebs gets a supermax for Manilow, the horse you rode in on, and the river on fire...

TBone gets a JJC point for three blondes and a brunette (It takes two songs to tango, you know, not just one... this game was about parthenogenesis...)

Weasel gets a JJC point for the alternate image being better than his official one again...

elwood gets a JJC point for finding the missing "1" from those countdown reels...

Sprots gets a supermax because of this...

Image

Anon gets 2 JJC points for the Esto School of Weird Cover Bands (I guess it helps that they played Faith No More at the casino last night...)

Esto gets a JJC point for causing me to waste a lot of time trying to figure out who those dolls were supposed to be representing. I'm guessing #15 is supposed to be Furcal, and that set is from circa 2012...

Points:

Vandal 27+3
BiT 8+2
mrk 36+3+5
frank 27
Beebs 0+5
TBone 36+1
Krox 8
jarnon 4
Weasel 35+1
elwood 11+1

It was especially appropriate because my latest game - which got finished just yesterday - had to do with movie titles embedded within other movie titles.
