Stay Tuned for "The Smoke of the Sioux"
In conjuction with JimC at Frontier Partisans:
https://frontierpartisans.com/
I am moving forward on a project called "The Smoke of the Sioux" to hopefully fill a gap on that site and provide an outlet for me in an area that I have long wanted to write about.
https://thesmokeofthesioux.blogspot.com/
I still need to get "The Smoke of Africa" up to date, but I think I may have been subconsciously delaying it as I did not know what to write next.

I will be very interested to see what you mean by " . . . the horrendous treatment of the Sioux (and other tribes) during the building of dams on the Missouri (to say nothing of the environmental devatastation) may receive early treatment."

I hope this doesn't come across as brusque, but it is the name of the book. Read "Dammed Indians" as a starting point. I can't find the book right now, but there is a good quote in the forward that I really like.Appa23 wrote:I will be very interested to see what you mean by " . . . the horrendous treatment of the Sioux (and other tribes) during the building of dams on the Missouri (to say nothing of the environmental devatastation) may receive early treatment."
"Dammed Indians Revisited: The Continuing History of the Pick-Sloan Plan and the Missouri River Sioux."
The permanent flooding of those fertile and biologically diverse Missouri River bottomlands was/is a national tragedy.
Another book on the topic that I have, but I haven't read it yet, is "The Land Along the River: The Ongoing Saga of the Sioux Nation Land Claim 1851-2012."
I think my library is going to expand exponentially as this moves forward.-LOL

I think I have 2 more brewing in the hopper. Part of the fun is trying to figure out where to go next.
The Smoke of Africa was(is) mainly a simple chronological project. The Smoke of the Sioux will by necessity jump around geographically and chronologically.

Re: Stay Tuned for "The Smoke of the Sioux"
Kind of a fun coincidence.
The University of Minnesota Morris is only 15 miles away from where I live, I can see its wind turbines from my driveway.
The campus was originally an Indian Boarding School and the library has extensive archival Native American collections.
With spring, summer and fall being very busy on the farm, I could not look at anything there until next winter, but it might be fun to root around in there some next winter-
I love archival research.
