Atlanta fun

#1 Post by Pastor Fireball » Sun Jun 10, 2018 6:43 pm

Javon and I had so much fun the past four days that I completely forgot to report here. We make the 7 1/2 hour journey back to Cincinnati early tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, I am happy to announce that Javon will be a freshman at

in the fall. Obviously, that means I will be making a few road trips to the

area over the next few years. Expect my first one in a few weeks when I help Javon move and escort him through the freshman orientation.

My son is starting to look. He is looking to major in (musical) theatre, plus a 2nd major, so he is looking at schools in New York, Chicago, and L.A, but he is just starting to think about it. His girlfriend is talking about Howard and Hampton, so she has a better idea.

My son starts at Texas A&M (no surprise there) in the fall majoring in engineering.

Let me know if USC is one of his choices.

He has stated that it is one school that he wanted to examine, though he did call it "University of Spoiled Children". He really needs to look at what he wants out of college, both in training and what other majors they have (in case this professional acting thing doesn't work out).

His interest in pursuing a performance/acting career started only a few months ago, as he just started acting in high school productions and taking singing lessons. He did sing with the school's "varsity" choir, and he will be performing with the show choir, which is one of the best in this part of the country (apparently). Although he doesn't want to be known as a "dancer", it is his strength and ticket in many doors.

I assume he's going into his senior year? The Kaufman School of Dance, Thornton School of Music and Dramatic Arts are all integrated and are flexible with their majors. But he will have to discover that for himself....btw, it is not the University of Spoiled Children...it's the University of South Central...lol...oh, and....half the students are on some sort of financial aid.

Yes. He is Class of 2019. (He could have re-classified to Class of 2018, which was a thought if he had wanted to try professional dance training for a year, but he did not want to do it.)

Interestingly, one of the side benefits to his dance training is that he has proven very adept at stage combat and choreographing movement on stage (as least for high school). [One of the negatives is that his high school director likes being able to rely on him to handle those aspects of things. So, when they did Chicago this past year, he automatically was cast as the dance captain, and he helped teach everyone else the choreography. He did get to play Fogarty.]
