How does Streetcar complete a chronological list of movies that end with a movie from two years ago?

Completing a list does not specifically mean that a new list entry is going into the last position.

I specified the year in the question to avoid this ambiguity. These are all film versions of Pulitzer Prize-winning plays that were nominated for Best Picture.

B-20. This 1994 film was adapted from a 1953 play written by the father-in-law of one of the actors on List A.

Can this be THE CRUCIBLE?

it would give us Paul Scofield for Man for All Seasons, to go with Susannah York.

DUH - B-13. WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY = Jack Albertson

A-3. MARTIN SHEEN was the son of Jack Albertson (B-13. WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY) in The Subject Was Roses

A-53 MARGARET WYCHERLY was the mother of Gary Cooper (B-8. A FAREWELL TO ARMS) in Sergeant York

I went CRAZY trying to figure out who from Mary Poppins would work...…DUH!!

A-65. HENRY FONDA was the son of Jane Darwell (B-23. MARY POPPINS) in the Grapes of Wrath

B-36. According to Sydney Pollack, the more the leading lady of this film rehearsed and discussed, the better she got, while the more the leading man rehearsed and discussed, the staler he got – making it his job to figure out exactly how to catch them both at their best.
OUT OF AFRICA?

No. This HAS to be THE WAY WE WERE

to finish this match.

A-25. KAY MEDFORD was the mother of Barbra Streisand (B-36 THE WAY WE WERE) in Funny Girl

B-28. Because the 1931 version of the 1925 novel had bombed, this 1951 remake was given a different title and all the characters’ names were changed. (It worked.)

Could this possibly be A PLACE IN THE SUN (An American Tragedy is the precursor)??

That gives us Shelley Winters AND Elizabeth Taylor. AND Anne Revere to complete Angela Lansbury (her other daughter in National Velvet)

A-30. In a few weeks – unless the Tangredi curse gets to her – this actress will turn ninety – which is considerably younger than the character she played on a creepy episode of The Twilight Zone.

IF my instincts are right, we've talked about this episode before in one of Professor Tangredi's games. About a movie queen and her eternal youth.

ANN BLYTH

A-30. ANN BLYTH was the daughter of Joan Crawford (B-1. GRAND HOTEL) in Mildred Pierce.

A-44. She was the second of three actresses to receive the Kennedy Center Honors in tandem with her husband.
ANNE BANCROFT? JESSICA TANDY?

Could this be JOANNE WOODWARD?

Of so, it gives us...

A-44 JOANNE WOODWARD was the mother of Tom Hanks (B-5. CAST AWAY) in Philadelphia

A-28. In a 1997 television movie, he took on a role that had previously been played by Walter Abel and E.G. Marshall.
DUSTIN HOFFMAN

I don't think this is right.

I am pretty sure the role is from 12 Angry Men - Abel in the original TV production and Marshall in the movie. Which juror number, I am not sure.

I am also pretty sure that Hoffman wasn't in the TV movie version.

BUT, except for Jack Lemmon and Ossie Davis, I don't remember who was IN it. And, since Lemmon was the Henry Fonda role, it's not him.

I don't want to look it up just yet either, but I do know they changed the juror numbers around from the Fonda movie to the TV version. The characters pretty much remained the same however. George C. Scott had the Lee J. Cobb role.

Melly just identified A-28 as the wrong actor. So the rest of the definites (as of 10 a.m. Tuesday) must be right.
franktangredi wrote:Among the movies…
Of those with a question mark, 3 are right and 2 are wrong.
B-34 & B-36 were wrong, so B-22, B-38 & B-39 must be right.

And with the confirmation of B39, this one just came to me....

THIS one has been driving me crazy but I couldn't place it until now.

A-21. “I'm somebody now, Harry. Everybody likes me. Soon, millions of people will see me and they'll all like me. I'll tell them about you, and your father, how good he was to us. Remember? It's a reason to get up in the morning. It's a reason to lose weight, to fit in the red dress. It's a reason to smile. It makes tomorrow all right.”

ELLEN BURSTYN in Requiem for a Dream

A-21 ELLEN BURSTYN, was the daughter of Art Carney (B-39. LAST ACTION HERO) in Harry and Tonto.

New consolidation…

Identify the 65 actors in List A and the 40 movies in List B. (Every other clue is a quotation.) Then, form 66 pairs, each consisting of one movie and one actor, according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself. The same basic Tangredi applies to all pairs, but some of them go one way and some of them go the other way. You’ll see.

One actor will be used twice.

Sixteen movies will be used twice and five movies will be used three times.

There will be no alternate answers.

There was a little boy, four and a half, and his little three year old sister. After the coroner's investigation, their bodies were taken to the mortuary where the undertaker took one look at them and said their bodies couldn't be reconstructed for the burial without six days of steady work. One of the actors with a question mark is wrong. Everything else, of course, is right. I think one previously identified pair dropped out of the consolidation.

One of the two with questions marks is wrong.

Since A-60 is right....

A-60. ANGELA LANSBURY was the daughter of Anne Revere ((B-28. A PLACE IN THE SUN) in National Velvet.

This can't be.

A-49. “He's escaped from the insane asylum. Seven years ago he murdered two children, broke into the house and found them asleep in bed. There was a little boy, four and a half, and his little three year old sister. After the coroner's investigation, their bodies were taken to the mortuary where the undertaker took one look at them and said their bodies couldn't be reconstructed for the burial without six days of steady work. Then he asked what had been the murder weapon, because looking at the mess in front of him, he couldn't imagine what had been used. The coroner told him there had been no weapon, just his hands.”

DONALD PLEASANCE?

Could this be the missing Charles Durning for Jessica Lange (Crimes of the Heart) and Tootsie?

If not this, he HAS to be someplace.

It's too good to miss, with the movie having three winners.

Yes. Charles Durning in When a Stranger Calls. That one was driving me crazy. Any others I would have gotten have already been gotten. You guys are much better at the movies than I am.

I think all of these novels won the Pulitzer Prize. If so, then the answer is THE HOURS.

B-11. “Do you think they deserved to die?”
“Yes, they deserved to die and I hope they burn in hell!”

This was from A TIME TO KILL, a film with a butt-ton of Oscar winners--Sandra Bullock, Chris Cooper, Brenda Fricker, Matthew McConaughey, and Kevin Spacey. Fricker is obviously here for My Left Foot and A-29. DANIEL DAY-LEWIS. I suspect that there will be at least one more match with B-11.
