Republican Dirty Tricks in Georgia

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Sun Nov 04, 2018 6:54 pm

You can tell the election is closer here than what Republicans would care for because they are pulling out all the stops. I'm not talking about their usual litany of tacky commercials like the one featuring a scowling Nancy Pelosi and an image of dark-skinned people trying to climb over a wall. Or about the two lawsuits they have lost this week that restored the eligibility of various voters purged by the Secretary of State's office. No, within the last 24 hours, we've had:

(1) Secretary of State Brian Kemp, whose office oversees the upcoming elections and who just happens to be the Republican gubernatorial candidate announced that his office would be investigating an alleged attempted hack of Georgia's voter registration system by the state Democratic Party. Of course, he provided no evidence whatsoever of this alleged hack but felt it was important enough to announce to the entire world news media. According to a Kemp spokesperson:
"While we cannot comment on the specifics of an ongoing investigation, I can confirm that the Democratic Party of Georgia is under investigation for possible cyber crimes. We can also confirm that no personal data was breached and our system remains secure."
The Democratic party and candidate Stacey Abrams have vehemently denied the allegations. Kemp's office has referred the matter to the FBI and Homeland Security which are not commenting. Democrats have also complained about the state's entirely computerized voting system in the past being vulnerable to potential hacks. That's typical Republican tactics: accuse the opposition of doing something they actively tried to prevent from happening.

(2) A white supremacist group (translated: proud Republicans) has sent out a robocall mocking Oprah Winfrey and Stacey Abrams in which a voice pretending to be Oprah said that the "Jews who own the American media [used Oprah] to trick dumb white women." The robocall also had ugly things to say about Abrams.

Yep, the Republicans are getting desperate.

A white supremacist group (translated: proud Republicans)
You bring these alleged incidents up to demonize the republicans, and then you write this, which shows why your party needs to be kept as far from power as possible. ESAD.
Your friendly neighborhood racist. On the waiting list to be a nazi. Designated an honorary 'snowflake'. Trolled by the very best, as well as by BJ. Always typical, unlike others.., Fulminator, Hopelessly in the tank for trump... inappropriate... Flocking himself... Probably a tucking sexist, too... All thought comes from the right wing noise machine(TM)... A clear and present threat to The Future Of Our Democracy.. Doesn't understand anything... Made the trump apologist and enabler playoffs... Heathen bastard... Knows nothing about history... Liar.... don't know much about statistics and polling... Nothing at all about biology... Ignorant Bigot... Potential Future Pariah... Big Nerd... Spiraling, Anti-Trans Bigot.. A Lunatic AND a Bigot.. Very Ignorant of the World in General... Sounds deranged... Fake Christian... Weird... has the mind of a child... has paranoid delusions... Simpleton

And what would you call a group that spends its own money to send out a robocall promoting a Republican candidate for governor over a Democratic one? Concerned non-partisans?

I have to admit it's tough figuring out just which groups of white supremacists Kemp accepts support from and which he doesn't.

I would say none. But your definition of "White Supremecist" is different than mine.

More details on the alleged hack.

An outside computer expert found what he claimed were vulnerabilities in the voter information website maintained by the Secretary of State's office which could allow people access to personal voter information. He notified the attorney of a group that has filed lawsuits against Kemp regarding voter suppression, and they notified the Democratic party, who in turn notified other outside computer experts and Kemp's attorneys and the FBI.

So, Kemp is once again exposed as having a lax system and he responds by opening an investigation into the Democrats who notified his attorneys about the problem. Typical Republican politics. Cover up your mistakes by accusing the other side.
