I thought this was Robert E. Lee, but I was wrong. Lee was actually second, and the third highest score was DOUGLAS MACARTHUR. If you want a good million dollar question on Millionaire you might ask who was first, and the answer is actually a classmate of Lee's, Charles Mason, who left the Army two years after graduation and later became the first Chief Justice of the Iowa Supreme Court.

43. She never won an Emmy off of her four career nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in both drama and comedy. Contrary to popular belief, she has never been jealous of either of the Emmy-winning co-stars of her respective series.

I think I may have been right about this being SUSAN ST. JAMES after all.

This would suggest that the 50 associated words might be passwords and the people might be clues that point to that password.

One link immediately sprang to mind. Perhaps Eric Bana's best known role was as a convict in the movie Chopper. The problem is that I look at many of the other people and I can't find a link that would naturally suggest any of those words.

I looked up a couple of the answers because I want to get this game going again.

39. While he was a student at Wichita State University, he won $7,000 in a miniature golf tournament that aired on ESPN. (Yes, ESPN used to air stuff like that!) In 2018, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of a different ball sport.

I was trying to figure out what ball sport is was & then I realized that it was bowling:

CHRIS BARNES

64. For 24 years, he served as the Special Assistant to the General Manager of the Florida Marlins (now the Miami Marlins)... and also served less than a season as the Marlins manager during that time.

I honestly didn't know that he was a manager of the Marlins:

TONY PEREZ

I can also confirm that this clue (70. NBC did to her in 1987 what ABC did to another actress in 2018, but for entirely different reasons.) is indeed Valerie Harper. NBC killed off her character on The Hogan Family just as ABC killed off Roseanne's character on The Conners.

Also, this clue (82. The road that directly links Denver International Airport to Interstate 70 is named after him.) has the wrong person as the answer. It's FEDERICO PENA, not FRANCISCO PENA. Federico Pena is the former mayor of Denver & Francisco Pena is a baseball player.

Some more answers that I looked up:

7. His career began as a fact checker for a news network that folded in 2018. Now he fact-checks a con man surnamed Trump every weeknight on a news network that was totally not failing in 2018.

ANDERSON COOPER

10. This former president's mistress of over thirty years, who also happened to be his wife's personal secretary, was with him on the day that he died.
FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT or MISSY LeHAND

I couldn't find the answer to this one, but it's not either of these options. Missy LeHand died a year before FDR.

11. Though he didn't appear in the movie, he did receive an original Maltese falcon statuette as a gift from Jack Warner.
DASHIELL HAMMETT? JOHN HUSTON?

It's not one of those options. It's actually:

WILLIAM CONRAD

12. This man has starred in more Notorious TV Turkeys than I can care to recall. Among them: a spin-off of a popular 1960s-70s ABC sitcom, a reboot of a popular 1970s-80s ABC sitcom, and a sitcom version of a popular cooking show.

ROBERT URICH

19. Chet Atkins once claimed this multiple Grammy winner "single-handedly" saved the country music industry from its apparent downward spiral during the 1980s.
GARTH BROOKS?

I'm pretty sure Garth Brooks didn't have any hits in the '80s. It's actually:

RICKY SKAGGS

22. In her side career as an artist, she has shown off her works in exhibitions called Totem, Antenna, Catapult, and Glass Onion.
YOKO ONO?

Nope. It's actually:

LUCY LIU

29. His blues albums have featured collaborations with Jean McClain, Irma Thomas, Dr. John, and Tom Jones. (Another Tom Jones reference appears at #95.)

HUGH LAURIE

38. Speaking of TV directors, this actor's father directed three episodes of Little House on the Prairie--including one in which this actor appeared as a teenager--and later received an Emmy nomination for directing a short-lived legal drama.

The dad is Leo Penn. The son is:

SEAN PENN

41. His father's recording studio, Aura Recording Inc., was partly responsible for the production of the Tennessee Tuxedo cartoon.

The dad is Ben Stern. The son is:

HOWARD STERN

42. This man left three novels unpublished at the time of his unexpected death: one finished novel that was published a year after his death, one incomplete novel finished by Richard Preston and published in 2011, and one novel completely written in 1974 but not published until 2017.

MICHAEL CRICHTON

48. The news program that he created for WCIU in Chicago ran for fourteen years. The music program that he created for WCIU ran much, much longer.

This is indeed:

DON CORNELIUS

49. Speaking of local news programs, she was the host of Inside Bed-Stuy for WNEW (now WNYW) in New York City.

She was better known as an actress:

ROXIE ROKER

54. He used to be married to the founder of a company that answers the question, "Which s**thole countries do my ancestors come from?" That, in turn, made him the ex-brother-in-law of the current CEO of a company that answers the question, "Where can I waste my entire day watching cute kittens?"

SERGEY BRIN

68. In her best-selling gardening book, she admitted that she had been oblivious to the entire concept of agriculture as a child, stating that she had "no idea that tomatoes didn’t come in green plastic trays, covered by cellophane, and that they could be any color other than pale red."

This answer shocked me. It's:

MICHELLE OBAMA

72. This fictional character drove an early model Dodge Ram van with a license plate that said "POSSUM".

RED GREEN

73. His on-air replacements have included Kenny Mayne, David Shuster, and Eliot Spitzer. (Yes, that Eliot Spitzer... the Morning Ho himself.)

KEITH OLBERMANN

83. Some of the very specific demands that have appeared in her contract riders include a dressing room set to exactly 75 degrees, inside of which should be exactly eight tall leafy plants, a couch with exactly three cushions, and exactly twenty white kittens to play with her bare feet.

I honestly thought this was going to be Katy Perry because of the reaction to those tour demands that were leaked, but it's actually:

MARIAH CAREY

91. He introduced Woody Guthrie to Pete Seeger... and a few pro-communist publications.
WILL GEER?

This is indeed Will Geer.

97. He successfully lobbied his fellow Oxford University students to reject a measure that would have outlawed American culture on campus, writing, "Oxford is very pretty, but I don't like to be dead." (He himself would reject America years later.)

T.S. ELIOT

I also don't get how the answer to this clue (62. His most famous speech did not end with well wishes to an old next-door neighbor who desired a BJ.) is Neil Armstrong.

Here is the false story:

"When he was a kid, Neil was playing baseball with his brother in the backyard. His brother hit a fly ball which landed in front of his neighbors’ bedroom window. The neighbors were Mr. and Mrs. Gorsky. As he leaned down to pick up the ball, he heard Mrs. Gorsky shouting at Mr. Gorsky, 'Oral sex? Oral sex you want? You’ll get oral sex when the kid next door walks on the moon!'”

Updated consolidation…

Solve the 100 clues below. Then, using two names and one of the Associated Words at the bottom, form 50 connections based on a Tangredi, or hidden principle, that you must discover for yourself. The quote is: "He would have mistrusted those sublimities whence certain men, and very great men such as Swedenborg and Pascal, have lapsed into madness."

Pascal died in 1662 and Swedenborg died in 1772. I'd guess that the "long-dead" portion of clue would narrow it down to Pascal, since Hugo wrote Les Miserables in 1862 and 200 years is arguably longer dead than a mere 90 years.

It may be a mere 90 years before anyone guesses this Tangredi.
