Lyrically Speaking - 2/1/19

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Fri Feb 01, 2019 2:18 am

Hi! This is Regis Philbin, and welcome to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Be sure you have a pen, some paper, and a calendar ready...

Ah, the old phone game. Seems like just yesterday, doesn't it? No? Yeah, me neither. But let's relive those days anyway in this weekend's LSWE game! Below are three Fastest Finger type questions where each of the choices is a song. Solve the lyrics to each song, then put the choices in order based on what the question asks for. Don't go latching on to some weird ass cover versions of these songs (Esto), or you won't do so well with the ordering. You can guess at the correct order even if you don't solve all of the songs. Good luck! Oh, and you can put the calendar back up on the wall now...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the correct order of each question...

#1. Put these songs in the order they hit #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, starting with the earliest.

A. Watching and waiting
Ooh, she's sittin' with you but her eyes are on the door

B. What made you think he'd believe all your lies?
You're a big man now but he'll cut you down to size
Wait and see!

C. And now I'm feelin' better,
'Cause I found out for sure.
She took me to her doctor
And he told me of a cure.

D. So I'm lookin' at rock videos
Watchin' these bimbos walkin' like hoes
You can have them bimbos
I'll keep my women like Flo Jo

Order:

#2. Put these songs in order by the birth of the artist, starting with the earliest.

A. Twenty-eight years have come and gone.
And she's seen a lot of tears
Of the ones who come in
They really seem to need her there.

B. But you made me feel
Yeah, you made me feel
Shiny and new

C. Baby
I know you're asking me to stay
Say please, please, please, don't go away
You say I'm giving you the blues

D. Knew you'd be a vision in white
How'd you get those pants so tight?
Don't know what you're doin'
But you must be livin' right

Order:

#3. Put these songs in order by the peak position they attained on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart, starting with the highest (best) ranking.

A. Well, I`ll tell you one thing
If you would leave it be a crying shame
In every breath and every word
I hear your name, calling me out

B. You put a hand on my cheek,
And then you turned your eyes away.
If you don't feel complete,
If I don't take you all of the way then go

C. There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
Cause you know sometimes
Words have two meanings

D. Message keeps getting clearer
Radio's on and I'm moving 'round the place
I check my look in the mirror
I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face

Order:

Me and Wiki did our best, but we don't sing any of them. We did make our best guesses for a few of them, and we guessed at the order. Guessing means sometimes you can get something right, right?

Ah, the old phone game. Seems like just yesterday, doesn't it? No? Yeah, me neither. But let's relive those days anyway in this weekend's LSWE game! Below are three Fastest Finger type questions where each of the choices is a song. Solve the lyrics to each song, then put the choices in order based on what the question asks for. Don't go latching on to some weird ass cover versions of these songs (Esto), or you won't do so well with the ordering. You can guess at the correct order even if you don't solve all of the songs. Good luck! Oh, and you can put the calendar back up on the wall now...
Me and Wiki did our best, but we don't sing any of them. We did make our best guesses for a few of them, and we guessed at the order. Guessing means sometimes you can get something right, right?

#1. Put these songs in the order they hit #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, starting with the earliest.

A. Watching and waiting
Ooh, she's sittin' with you but her eyes are on the door
Maneater - Hall & Oates (1982 - No quite from the 70's, though that didn't hurt most of you...)

B. What made you think he'd believe all your lies?
You're a big man now but he'll cut you down to size
Wait and see!
My Boyfriend's Back - Angels (1963 - While checking to see if the Shangri Las did a cover of this or not, I discovered that one of the horn players on this song was none other than Ronnie James Dio. Yes, THAT Dio...)

C. And now I'm feelin' better,
'Cause I found out for sure.
She took me to her doctor
And he told me of a cure.
You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet - BTO (1974)

D. So I'm lookin' at rock videos
Watchin' these bimbos walkin' like hoes
You can have them bimbos
I'll keep my women like Flo Jo
Baby Got Back - Sir Mix A Lot (1992)

Order: B-C-A-D (I intentionally picked songs a decade apart to make this one as easy as possible...)

#2. Put these songs in order by the birth of the artist, starting with the earliest.

A. Twenty-eight years have come and gone.
And she's seen a lot of tears
Of the ones who come in
They really seem to need her there.
She Works Hard For The Money - Donna Summer (1948 - I had the artists picked out before I checked their birthdates, and was shocked to see how old Donna was...)

B. But you made me feel
Yeah, you made me feel
Shiny and new
Like A Virgin - Madonna (1958)

C. Baby
I know you're asking me to stay
Say please, please, please, don't go away
You say I'm giving you the blues
Faith - George Michael (1963)

D. Knew you'd be a vision in white
How'd you get those pants so tight?
Don't know what you're doin'
But you must be livin' right
Freeway Of Love - Aretha Franklin (1942)

Order: D-A-B-C (All of these songs were released within a couple years of each other, but had artists of varying age. I figured nobody would be fooled by me sneaking in 80's Aretha, which is the best Aretha...)

#3. Put these songs in order by the peak position they attained on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart, starting with the highest (best) ranking.

A. Well, I`ll tell you one thing
If you would leave it be a crying shame
In every breath and every word
I hear your name, calling me out
Smooth - Santana and Rob Thomas (#1 at the turn of the "millennium")

B. You put a hand on my cheek,
And then you turned your eyes away.
If you don't feel complete,
If I don't take you all of the way then go
You Got Lucky - Tom Petty (#15 - While doing my rant on "Free Fallin'" on my blog, I was shocked to discover that Petty was not a chart darling despite being so popular in the 80's. Free Fallin' was his only Top 10 hit, and at that only hit #7...)

C. There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
Cause you know sometimes
Words have two meanings
Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin (DNC - You're all just too smart for me....)

D. Message keeps getting clearer
Radio's on and I'm moving 'round the place
I check my look in the mirror
I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face
Dancing in the Dark - Bruce Springsteen (#2 - If not for the tag team of Prince and Duran Duran, Bruce would've finally achieved that #1 hit...)

Order: A-D-B-C (If you weren't aware of Bruce's curse, you didn't have much of a chance on this one...)

Image Bonus: Show me someone on the phone! - I had the over/under on Maxwell Smart images at 3.5, so you all weren't as predictable as I thought. Anon's phone sex was disgustingly brilliant, so his dirty mind lands him his second IBB...

To quote Robin Williams in Aladdin: YOU are down by ONE!

I need every point I can get, as I may have mentioned ad nauseam. I will review the standings and may pitch another fit here in a minute.

So true! My mom usta say to me, "Sprots, you'd bitch if you were hung with a new rope."

I was going to say that to Esto the other day but decided to research it first and see what it actually meant. But I doesn't mean much except, as far as I can tell, "Quit whining!"
