Lyrically Speaking - 2/6/19

#1 Post by MuhammadSaidalSahhaf » Wed Feb 06, 2019 8:53 am

Do not believe what you are hearing from the so-called "meister" of this game. The LSWE is full of LIES! This game LB the Liar has asked me to host is full of them! Each of these songs contains a very blatant mistruth in the posted lyrics, and if you point out each vicious lie and correct it, you'll earn some extra points from this spiderhole that is so NOT full of records of mass destruction. If you'll excuse me, I need to go change out the Slurpee machine now...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 1 point for correcting the "lie" in each set of lyrics...

1. So I called up the Captain, 'Please bring me my wine'
He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here since 1959'

2. Though the dawn may be coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the dark side of the moon
And meet me on the other side

3. Six o'clock already
I was just in the middle of a dream
I was kissin' Dan Marino
By a crystal blue Italian stream

4. Get your mind together
Come bring your good friends too
Because it's getting nearer
Soon it will be with you

5. Well, I put the cold rock into that can
But all they played was emo, man
Come on, baby, baby, let's get out of here right away

6. I remember when rock was young
Me and Sally had so much fun
holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own

7. She was the color of the Indian summer
And we shared the hours without number
Until one day when the sky turned dark
And the sea grew wild

8. Won't go to hear them play a tango
I'd rather hear some blues or dusty old soul

9. Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Dino's bar and grill
The drink will flow and blood will spill
If the boys want to rock, you'd better let them

10. And they drive their shiny Datsuns and Buicks
Back to the phone company, the grocery stores, too
Well, they're nothing like Billy and me

11. And all I can do is just pour some tea for you
and speak my point of view
But it's not sane, It's not sane

12. Her face reminds me
of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by

1. So I called up the Captain, 'Please bring me my wine'
He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here since 1959'

Hotel California-Eagles. It's 1969, not 1959. They were still Eaglets in '59.

2. Though the dawn may be coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the dark side of the moon
And meet me on the other side

Dream Weaver-Gary Wright. The bright side, not the dark side. Pink Floyd already occupied the dark side.

3. Six o'clock already
I was just in the middle of a dream
I was kissin' Dan Marino
By a crystal blue Italian stream

Manic Monday-The Bangles. She was kissing Valentino, not Marino. Dan Marino?? Ewwwwww. As a Bills fan, the only thing I wanted to see him kissing back in the day was turf.

4. Get your mind together
Come bring your good friends too
Because it's getting nearer
Soon it will be with you

Peace Train-Cat Stevens. Get your bags. You apparently can leave your mind behind.

5. Well, I put the cold rock into that can
But all they played was emo, man
Come on, baby, baby, let's get out of here right away

Rock This Town-Stray Cats. They played disco, not emo. I'd probably skedaddle either way.

6. I remember when rock was young
Me and Sally had so much fun
holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own

Crocodile Rock-Elton John. He had fun with Suzie, not Sally. Unless he was also had fun with Sally, in which case we now know the reason why Someone needed to Save His Life One Night a few albums later.

7. She was the color of the Indian summer
And we shared the hours without number
Until one day when the sky turned dark
And the sea grew wild

Thunder Island-Jay Ferguson. The winds grew wild. Although I don't imagine the seas were very calm either.

8. Won't go to hear them play a tango
I'd rather hear some blues or dusty old soul

Old Time Rock 'n Roll-Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band. He wants funky old soul, not dusty. Unless it's Dusty Springfield's "Dusty in Memphis". I'm betting that would be fine with him. Good stuff.

9. Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Dino's bar and grill
The drink will flow and blood will spill
If the boys want to rock, you'd better let them

The Boys Are Back in Town-Thin Lizzy. The boys wanna fight, not rock. Yeah, we played in places that had a few of those types.

10. And they drive their shiny Datsuns and Buicks
Back to the phone company, the grocery stores, too
Well, they're nothing like Billy and me

To The Batmobile-The Dynamic Duo. Robin, not Billy.

11. And all I can do is just pour some tea for you
and speak my point of view
But it's not sane, It's not sane

Damn. And I was doing so well.

Arsenic In The Sugar Bowl-Psycho Granny. I'm, not It's.

12. Her face reminds me
of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by

This is Sweet Child of Mine-Guns 'n Roses, but I don't know where the "lie" is.

Crocodile Rock, by Mr. Elton John

I'd like to tell you that Annie DID know an alligator or crocodile named Wolfgang, but she never did.

This is another song that I know because of Annie, though. She thought Mr. Elton was a wonderful pianist. She said that when he was a kid he studied classical piano at the Royal Academy of Music, which was a big deal. According to Annie, he must have played Mr. Mozart a lot because, she said, "I can tell." Annie had problems playing the piano because (a) she didn't have a real piano, she had an electronic keyboard; and (b) she couldn't play more than one note at a time, not having real, separate, long fingers that could stretch out in chords and wiggle in trills and stuff. She did have a computer program called Finale, which meant she could play one note at a time, then go back and group notes together or change the time duration for each note. The computer could then play it back on the keyboard to sound like Annie had heard in her own mind, or she could fiddle with it some more, if she thought she could make it even better. That's why her work on her opera took such a long time. If she'd had fingers, she would still be famous. (I am certain that she is famous at the Rainbow Bridge and surrounding parts of Heaven.)

By accident, I found out just today that Mr. Elton is going to play a concert in my state -- in Tulsa -- next Saturday night! I asked my mom if she would drive us over to see it, but she said no. Mom says she doesn't think that there are likely to be any tickets left, anyway. I suggested that me and Wiki could stand outside the place and make sad puppy eyes at people coming to hear the music, and maybe one of them would take pity on us and give us their tickets. She said that wouldn't be fair to the people who liked Mr. Elton just as much as Annie (and me) did. Darn. I hate it when she's fair.

By the way, I don't think the name of the girl having so much fun is "Sally." I think it's something else -- Susie, maybe. If I could go to Tulsa and meet Mr. Elton, I bet he would change the lyrics to "Me and Lizzie had so much fun." That would be true, too. We would laff and laff.

Here is Wiki's contribution. She says it's dogs looking as if they are very sorry they did something bad, but NO one is really sorry. It's pups. It's a game. It's a con job.

Unless I tell you something. Whatever I say is always really, really on the up and up.

I guess Bryan Adams must have cleaned them slap out of hooch down at the five and dime...

2. Though the dawn may be coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the dark side of the moon
And meet me on the other side

Dreamweaver - Gary Wright - bright

Ha! You had me going all Pink Floyd until I focused on the last line. Fess up, you changed that word just to create such confusion....

3. Six o'clock already
I was just in the middle of a dream
I was kissin' Dan Marino
By a crystal blue Italian stream

Manic Monday - Prince - Valentino

4. Get your mind together

7. She was the color of the Indian summer
And we shared the hours without number
Until one day when the sky turned dark
And the sea grew wild

This song was considered quite risque BITD. Not exactly Chevy Van dirty, but not exactly above board, either...

12. Her face reminds me
of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder

Sweet Child o' Mine - Guns n Roses - hair

Fun Fact: It was written about Erin Everly (daughter of Phil or Don), Axl's fiancee at the time

1. So I called up the Captain, 'Please bring me my wine'
He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here since 1959'
Hotel California - Eagles - 1969 (Knowing this year was a key to solving one of my ES games in 2009, so look forward to this again in the 2029 LSWE...)

2. Though the dawn may be coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the dark side of the moon
And meet me on the other side
Dream Weaver - Gary Wright - bright (I didn't think anyone would confuse this with Pink Floyd, I just thought "dark side of the moon" is more familiar and some people might not notice it was incorrect...)

3. Six o'clock already
I was just in the middle of a dream
I was kissin' Dan Marino
By a crystal blue Italian stream
Manic Monday - Bangles - Valentino (Literally the only four syllable name I could think of that somewhat mimicked Valentino's name...)

4. Get your mind together
Come bring your good friends too
Because it's getting nearer
Soon it will be with you
Peace Train - Cat Stevens - bags

5. Well, I put the cold rock into that can
But all they played was emo, man
Come on, baby, baby, let's get out of here right away
Rock This Town - Stray Cats - disco (I double and triple checked these lyrics since I always thought he was putting "a quarter right into that can," and that obviously made a difference for this game...)

6. I remember when rock was young
Me and Sally had so much fun
holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own
Crocodile Rock - Elton John - Suzie (There are apparently many different ways to spell Suzie, but they were all accepted...)

7. She was the color of the Indian summer
And we shared the hours without number
Until one day when the sky turned dark
And the sea grew wild
Thunder Island - Jay Ferguson - winds (Singular form wind was accepted, I wasn't too terribly picky on the lie word as long as its base word was there...)

8. Won't go to hear them play a tango
I'd rather hear some blues or dusty old soul
Old Time Rock And Roll - Bob Seger - funky

9. Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Dino's bar and grill
The drink will flow and blood will spill
If the boys want to rock, you'd better let them
The Boys Are Back In Town - Thin Lizzie - fight

10. And they drive their shiny Datsuns and Buicks
Back to the phone company, the grocery stores, too
Well, they're nothing like Billy and me
All I Wanna Do - Sheryl Crow - record (I intentionally picked this part since there were so many different elements that could have contained the lie...)

11. And all I can do is just pour some tea for you
and speak my point of view
But it's not sane, It's not sane
No Rain - Blind Melon - two

12. Her face reminds me
of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by
Sweet Child O Mine - Guns N Roses - hair (I picked this one because hair seems silly. Why would you sing about someone's hair unless you're Peter and Gordon?)

Image Bonus: Lie to me, baby (No politics, please!) - You're all a bunch of liars. But nobody's as good a liar as ol' David Leisure, aka Joe Isuzu. Krox gets the 5 point IBB, and that's no fib...

Anon's fake lies were just as good as TBone's extraneous comments, and got him a supermax (Which will never be worth four points)...
