Lyrically Speaking - 2/11/19

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Mon Feb 11, 2019 7:59 am

I knew I had done the board game Monopoly as an LSWE theme before, but I was surprised to find out that dated back to the very first contest in 2008. So, I think it's time to get that game back out of the bottom of the closet and play it again! Not the exact same game as last time... I didn't even look at which songs I used then while compiling this one. Now, who wants to take a ride on the Reading with me?

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. She's got wonderful eyes and a risque mouth
And when I ask her before, she said she's holding out

2. This low down bitching
Got my poor feet itching
Don`t you know you know
The deuce is still wild

3. Well, since my baby left
Well I found a new place to dwell
Well, it's down at the end of Lonely Street

4. From the park you hear the happy sound of a carousel
Mm-mm, you can almost taste the hot dogs and French fries they sell

5. So much that I wanna do, when I dream I'm alone with you
It's magic
You want me to leave it there, afraid of a love affair
But I think you know
That I can't let go

6. You search in your bag
Light up a fag
Think it's a drag, but you're so glad
To be alive honey

7. When I hold her in my arms
You know, she sets my soul on fire
Ooh, when my baby kisses me
My heart becomes filled with desire

8. Father gets up late for work
Mother has to iron his shirt
Then she sends the kids to school

9. In the jungle,
The mighty jungle

10. Girl your memory won't ever haunt me
Cause I don't love you
Now if you'll buy that

11. I was shootin’ dice, rakin’ in the dough (long green)
And then I hea-ard the whistle blow
We started to run when a man in blue
Said "señor, come with me ‘cause I want you."

12. Put your makeup on
Fix your hair up pretty
And meet me tonight

Love this song, I always say you can't beat a 4/4 walking bass line. I also always say that if I don't get to be the top hat, I'm not playing Monopoly with you.

I haven't thought about that song in years and just seeing the name gave me shivers! It's probably been longer since I've seen that video (and I'm not watching it now) and it's always creeped me the hell out.

People rant and rave about how out of control things are now, but there's always been effed up and weird stuff out there that actually seemed normal bitd...

Me and Wiki both think we know two of the old-timey songs here. We're not sure how, because they're not like our car-singing songs, and I can't remember Annie every playing either of them, but they are familiar. The only thing I can think of is that, because both Wiki and me found our mom in the same animal shelter, even though it was years apart, maybe somebody who worked there played them on the loud speaker late at night or something. Anyway, we're both absolutely positive, maybe.

We don't know one. We're not real clear exactly what a Monopoly reference is, except maybe a thick library book about all the rules, standards, and legal arguments about the game. To us, that sounds like a dumb thing to write a song about.

Wiki likes this game. She thinks it is Monopoly related. A cousin or a nephew, maybe.

Please please don't send us to jail. The Animal Shelter was too much like that, anyway.

Spoiler
[quote="littlebeast13"]I knew I had done the board game Monopoly as an LSWE theme before, but I was surprised to find out that dated back to the very first contest in 2008.

This is hopeless. How about Clue? I bet I could get a couple.

2. This low down bitching
Got my poor feet itching
Don`t you know you know
The deuce is still wild

See 1.

3. Well, since my baby left
Well I found a new place to dwell
Well, it's down at the end of Lonely Street

Heartbreak Hotel, Elvis Presley

4. From the park you hear the happy sound of a carousel
Mm-mm, you can almost taste the hot dogs and French fries they sell

Under the Boardwalk, The Drifters

About a million years, I was having a bad game playing softball. I walked three batters in a row. The opposing team started singing this song -- "Under the boardwalk, boardwalk!" It made me mad, and I shaped up. I don't remember who won, just this song. They were actually pretty good singers.

5. So much that I wanna do, when I dream I'm alone with you
It's magic
You want me to leave it there, afraid of a love affair
But I think you know
That I can't let go

Take a chance on me, ABBA

6. You search in your bag
Light up a fag
Think it's a drag, but you're so glad
To be alive honey

Blue Money

7. When I hold her in my arms
You know, she sets my soul on fire
Ooh, when my baby kisses me
My heart becomes filled with desire

I guess I can't say See 1. I did get a few.

8. Father gets up late for work
Mother has to iron his shirt
Then she sends the kids to school

I mighta got this one if I started working on it at 8 a.m., but I give up. It's hopeless.

9. In the jungle,
The mighty jungle

The Lion Sleeps Tonight, the Tokens

I was gonna whine about the lion sleeps tonight not having anything to do with Monopoly, but I finally remembered the artist.

10. Girl your memory won't ever haunt me
Cause I don't love you
Now if you'll buy that

I've got some oceanfront property in Arizona, George Strait

11. I was shootin’ dice, rakin’ in the dough (long green)
And then I hea-ard the whistle blow
We started to run when a man in blue
Said "señor, come with me ‘cause I want you."

I'll look this one up. Sounds really good or really terrible.

12. Put your makeup on
Fix your hair up pretty
And meet me tonight

I guess Clue wouldn't have been much better.

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains a Monopoly reference.

Tennessee Flat Top Box, Johnny Cash

Image Bonus: Make it Monopoly related or I'll send you to jail without passing Go..

I own this. Or maybe it's, I owned this. SteelersFan may have tossed it out with the overripe grapes. Don't we have an Oenophilic around here someplace? Maybe he'd like to have it.

1. She's got wonderful eyes and a risque mouth
And when I ask her before, she said she's holding out
Let's Go - Cars (One thing about doing these games almost exclusively on the fly now is that prescient points really no longer apply.... not that they used to mean anything before.)

2. This low down bitching
Got my poor feet itching
Don`t you know you know
The deuce is still wild
Tumblin' Dice - Rolling Stones (I have never heard the Linda Ronstadt version. I can't imagine her saying "bitching"...)

3. Well, since my baby left
Well I found a new place to dwell
Well, it's down at the end of Lonely Street
Heartbreak Hotel - Elvis Presley

4. From the park you hear the happy sound of a carousel
Mm-mm, you can almost taste the hot dogs and French fries they sell
Under the Boardwalk - Drifters (When I did my LS Tangredi game in September, I desperately tried to make a dual clue where a Drifters song was sandwiched between a boardwalk song above and a roof song below. Curse there not being another good boardwalk song!!!)

5. So much that I wanna do, when I dream I'm alone with you
It's magic
You want me to leave it there, afraid of a love affair
But I think you know
That I can't let go
Take A Chance On Me - ABBA

6. You search in your bag
Light up a fag
Think it's a drag, but you're so glad
To be alive honey
Blue Money - Van Morrison

7. When I hold her in my arms
You know, she sets my soul on fire
Ooh, when my baby kisses me
My heart becomes filled with desire
Some Kind Of Wonderful - Grand Funk (Railroad) (Who in the fuck does GFR think they are, Jefferson Starplane!?!?)

8. Father gets up late for work
Mother has to iron his shirt
Then she sends the kids to school
Our House - Madness

9. In the jungle,
The mighty jungle
The Lion Sleeps Tonight - The Tokens (And so many others... including my absolute favorite version by Robert John. But he didn't fit the theme...)

10. Girl your memory won't ever haunt me
Cause I don't love you
Now if you'll buy that
Ocean Front Property - George Strait

11. I was shootin’ dice, rakin’ in the dough (long green)
And then I hea-ard the whistle blow
We started to run when a man in blue
Said "señor, come with me ‘cause I want you."
The Tijuana Jail - The Kingston Trio (I guess this song is not that well known... but you know Sprots wants me to include as many obscure songs as possible)

12. Put your makeup on
Fix your hair up pretty
And meet me tonight
Atlantic City - Bruce Springsteen

Image Bonus: Make it Monopoly related or I'll send you to jail without passing Go...

As much as he probably thinks I pick on him, I am truly stunned that four weeks into the LSWE and Esto had not won an IBB yet. That changed with the Blind Date version of Monopoly, which cracked me up despite my generally hatred of all special editions of just about any classic institution. That just beat out melly's Parker Brothers, which I thought was especially clever...

I thought "B&O Railroad" was by best image so far (and my Krox was good too). So I won't get an IBB this year. :( At least I can still get the attendance bonus.
