Lyrically Speaking - 2/15/19

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Thu Feb 14, 2019 10:18 pm

May as well go ahead and post this now.... the 25th and final game of the 2019 LSWE! As I've done occasionally in many of my past contests, and in particular these last few years where I've been making things up as I go, the finale will be the all-Music Choice game. I flipped through the wide variety of Music Choice channels this afternoon and came across all of the songs below. The variety of songs should be pretty good here, other than most of them being songs Sprots can't identify. Good luck, and thank you all for playing the LSWE this year! I was worried I might end up doing all this work for a very small group this time around... but having about 17 or 18 players every day made it all worthwhile!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Looks like it's over, you knew I couldn't stay
She's comin' home today
We had a good thing, I'll miss your sweet love
Why must you look at me that way?

2. I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance
They're looking for a little romance, given half a chance

3. 'Til the sun that loves you proud
When the system tries to bring you down
Every hand to shine tonight
You don't need darkness to do what you think is right

4. Where you going for tommorrow
Where you going with the mask I found
And I feel and I feel
When the dogs begin to smell her
Will she smell alone

5. The way he moved, it was a sin, so sweet and true
Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for

6. Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive
Trying not to confuse it with what you do to survive

7. Dream of better lives
The kind which never hate
Dropped in the state
Of imaginary grace

8. And in the small there of your back
Your jeans are playing peek a boo
I'd like to see the other half
Of your butterfly tattoo

9. I left my teardrops
In that old lonely room
Left my broken heart
Back there, too

10. One that won't make me nervous, wonderin' what to do.
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you

11. My life's a shadowless horse
If I can't get across - to you
In the alligator rain
My hearts all pain - for you.

12. One week in we let the story begin
We're going out on our first date
You and me are thrifty so go all you can eat
Fill up your bag and I fill up a plate

13. I'm tired of being what you want me to be
Feeling so faithless lost under the surface
Don't know what you're expecting of me
Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes

14. I only know that
If you ever said goodbye
I couldn't stand the pain
These eyes would cry, cry
Cry like the rain

15. Girl I've seen you in clubs
Just hanging out and dancing.
You give your number to every man you see.

16. Happy times together we've been spending
I wish that every kiss was neverending

17. Don't call a doctor
Don't call her momma
Don't call her preacher

18. When they broke through to pull us free
The only ones left to tell the tale
Were Joe and me

19. You hurt and abuse telling all of your lies
Run round, sweet baby, Lord, how they hypnotize
Sweet little baby I don't know where you been
Gonna love you, baby, here I come again

20. Would you dance, if I asked you to dance
Would your run, and never look back
Would you cry, if you saw me crying
Would you save my soul tonight,

21. Lost control and rang your bell, I was sore
Let me in or else I'll beat down your door

22. Oh, I did some damage, I know it's true --
Didn't know I was so lonely till I found you.

23. Red roses, temptation,
You make the most of a sticky situation.
I'm waiting my decision
To see if it's love or if it isn't.

24. Hey now, hey now
Hear what I say now
Happiness is just around the corner
Hey now, hey now
Hear what I say now
We'll be there for you

25. And when I hurt
Hurting runs off my shoulder
How can I hurt when I'm holding you

Thank YOU..I look forward to this every year. And every year I make the same lame promise to gather up the various ideas I've had in order to host a summer edition, and every year I don't get it done. Someday.....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

One more thing before we get started. Not to toot my own horn, but...ok, honk honk. I should like to point out that, throughout all 25 contests this year, in all of my fake answers, I never..not once..resorted to a a Trump joke...even when I wound up really laboring to come up with something, resulting in a very lame "joke" answer. I had a few decent ones too, but this was the secret challenge I issued to myself..and I succeeded. Yay me!

Every hand to shine tonight

Where you going with the mask I found
And I feel and I feel
When the dogs begin to smell her
Will she smell alone
one of those 90s grunge songs I hated, by Stone Temple Pilots

Spoiler
[quote="littlebeast13"]May as well go ahead and post this now.... the 25th and final game of the 2019 LSWE!

The only reason I got this one is because I was thinking as I listened to it that it would be just the sort of song that LB would pick for LS. So I was very careful to note the title and artist.

What a nice set of lyrics! These probably will me and Wiki's favorite songs, if we ever figure out what they are. We're not even going to try to figure them out, however.

A. We'd be guessing; and
B. We'd be guessing wrong.

We did want to say something special to everybody who took part in the game, from Mr. little, who put it all together, to the people who played without getting all upset about whether Wiki and me should play, too. Wiki found a semiprofessional representative who is fluent in our language, and in speaking yours, too. (The spokesfurry does keep forgetting her lines, so her human has to keep reminding her.)

I really did have fun this year even though I couldn't get very many of those terrible songs.

Spoiler
Thank you for doing the LSWE again this year. Even if you did it on the fly, it wasn't at all sloppy and slap dash, but well put together even if you were copying off of my answer paper for future games....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Looks like it's over, you knew I couldn't stay
She's comin' home today
We had a good thing, I'll miss your sweet love
Why must you look at me that way?

Sad Eyes - Robert John

Or you could say Leo Sayer....if you wanted to be wrong.

2. I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance
They're looking for a little romance, given half a chance

Lady in Red - Chris de Burgh

And, because it can't be said enough....

3. 'Til the sun that loves you proud
When the system tries to bring you down
Every hand to shine tonight
You don't need darkness to do what you think is right

4. Where you going for tommorrow
Where you going with the mask I found
And I feel and I feel
When the dogs begin to smell her
Will she smell alone

Plush - Stone Temple Pilots

Fun Fact: They liked the logo on the STP stickers and made up a name to fit it, kind of like a backronym....

5. The way he moved, it was a sin, so sweet and true
Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for

Black Velvet - Alannah Myles

6. Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive
Trying not to confuse it with what you do to survive

7. Dream of better lives
The kind which never hate
Dropped in the state
Of imaginary grace

Melt With You - Modern English

8. And in the small there of your back
Your jeans are playing peek a boo
I'd like to see the other half
Of your butterfly tattoo

I'd Like to Check You for Ticks - Brad Paisley

9. I left my teardrops
In that old lonely room
Left my broken heart
Back there, too

10. One that won't make me nervous, wonderin' what to do.
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you

I Want a New Drug - Huey Lewis & the News

11. My life's a shadowless horse
If I can't get across - to you
In the alligator rain
My hearts all pain - for you.

Mambo Sun - T. Rex

Dude, I almost didn't get this one. The bit about the alligator stuck Moonage Daydream in my head, even thought that obviously wasn't it. Then I was thinking about Bolan and Bowie later on (you'll see where) and the rest is history....

12. One week in we let the story begin
We're going out on our first date
You and me are thrifty so go all you can eat
Fill up your bag and I fill up a plate

A Song that Isn't Don't or Perfect - Ed Sheeran

13. I'm tired of being what you want me to be
Feeling so faithless lost under the surface
Don't know what you're expecting of me
Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes

14. I only know that
If you ever said goodbye
I couldn't stand the pain
These eyes would cry, cry
Cry like the rain

15. Girl I've seen you in clubs
Just hanging out and dancing.
You give your number to every man you see.

Party All the Time - Eddie Murphy

16. Happy times together we've been spending
I wish that every kiss was neverending

Wouldn't It Be Nice - Beach Boys

17. Don't call a doctor
Don't call her momma
Don't call her preacher

18. When they broke through to pull us free
The only ones left to tell the tale
Were Joe and me

Timothy - The Buoys

What the hell kind of music stations do you get that play Mambo Sun and Timothy????

19. You hurt and abuse telling all of your lies
Run round, sweet baby, Lord, how they hypnotize
Sweet little baby I don't know where you been
Gonna love you, baby, here I come again

Dazed and Confused - Led Zeppelin

20. Would you dance, if I asked you to dance
Would your run, and never look back
Would you cry, if you saw me crying
Would you save my soul tonight,

Hero - Enrique Iglesias

I love this song, I don't care how sappy it is. I even love it more than Heroes (forgive me, Hottie!!).

Fun Fact: The last song Marc Feld performed in public shortly before he died was a duet of Heroes with David Jones...

21. Lost control and rang your bell, I was sore
Let me in or else I'll beat down your door

Silhouettes on the Shade - Herman's Hermits

Also some 50s vocal group whose name I don't recall...

22. Oh, I did some damage, I know it's true --
Didn't know I was so lonely till I found you.

The Long Run - Eagles

23. Red roses, temptation,
You make the most of a sticky situation.
I'm waiting my decision
To see if it's love or if it isn't.

24. Hey now, hey now
Hear what I say now
Happiness is just around the corner
Hey now, hey now
Hear what I say now
We'll be there for you

25. And when I hurt
Hurting runs off my shoulder
How can I hurt when I'm holding you

Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond

BOM! BOM! BOM!!

Kroxquo Bonus: Name the most recent song with artist that you've heard (even if it normally wouldn't be a valid Krox).

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

I was watching Suicide Squad before the All Star game and this song played over the ending scenes.

Actually the last song was something by J. Cole during halftime but I have no idea what it was since I don't keep up with current music much any more. Which I should, him being a Fayettevile boy and all....

Also Pro Tip: Don't try to answer the final game of LSWE when you've just painted your nails. Especially if you like to yammer on and on (I don't personally, but I know some do..). It took me the entire second half of the game to type this out since I had to re-type every line three times for all of the typos...

It is not actually the most recent song I've listened to, but I've heard it probably three or four times during the past week, on Stingray Flashback 70's. Thank you for hosting, LB!!! I always enjoy playing LS!!!

Before I begin, I have a Music Choice rant. Why is it that every time they play the Spencer Davis Group version of "I'm A Man", it's always a later version of the song they play? Play the original version of that song, Music Choice! It's not that hard to do!

Also, thank you for this LS game, LB. That's more points for me. :D

Spoiler

She's comin' home today

They're looking for a little romance, given half a chance

Every hand to shine tonight
You don't need darkness to do what you think is right

Now that melly finally showed up for class, we can get started... :P

1. Looks like it's over, you knew I couldn't stay
She's comin' home today
We had a good thing, I'll miss your sweet love
Why must you look at me that way?
Sad Eyes - Robert John

2. I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance
They're looking for a little romance, given half a chance
The Lady In Red - Chris De Burgh (One of the most awful fucking songs of all time...)

3. 'Til the sun that loves you proud
When the system tries to bring you down
Every hand to shine tonight
You don't need darkness to do what you think is right
Everybody Is A Star - Sly & The Family Stone

4. Where you going for tommorrow
Where you going with the mask I found
And I feel and I feel
When the dogs begin to smell her
Will she smell alone
Plush - Stone Temple Pilots (Who attended the Dylan-Zeppelin school of song titling...)

5. The way he moved, it was a sin, so sweet and true
Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for
Black Velvet - Alannah Myles (One of my Dad's favorite songs, and it was the first track on the playlist my sisters made for his funeral. They all swear they hear this song way more often than usual since then...)

6. Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive
Trying not to confuse it with what you do to survive
Running On Empty - Jackson Browne

7. Dream of better lives
The kind which never hate
Dropped in the state
Of imaginary grace
I Melt With You - Modern English (An 80's anthem that was never a Top 40 hit...)

8. And in the small there of your back
Your jeans are playing peek a boo
I'd like to see the other half
Of your butterfly tattoo
Ticks - Brad Paisley (One last Mecca country earworm for the season...)

9. I left my teardrops
In that old lonely room
Left my broken heart
Back there, too
Hotel Happiness - Brook Benton

Rex (I've never heard it before, but it was on the classic rock channel and I figured someone here might appreciate it...)

12. One week in we let the story begin
We're going out on our first date
You and me are thrifty so go all you can eat
Fill up your bag and I fill up a plate
Shape Of You - Ed Sheeran (This song is nowhere near as annoying as "Thinking Out Loud," but it still absolutely sucks. Most Ed Sheeran songs are popular but still suck, which makes him the male equivalent of Adele...)

13. I'm tired of being what you want me to be
Feeling so faithless lost under the surface
Don't know what you're expecting of me
Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes
Numb - Linkin Park (Speaking of suckage...)

I couldn't stand the pain

Would your run, and never look back
Would you cry, if you saw me crying
Would you save my soul tonight,
Hero - Enrique Iglesias

21. Lost control and rang your bell, I was sore
Let me in or else I'll beat down your door
Silhouettes - Herman's Hermits or The Rays

22. Oh, I did some damage, I know it's true --
Didn't know I was so lonely till I found you.
The Long Run - Eagles

23. Red roses, temptation,
You make the most of a sticky situation.
I'm waiting my decision
To see if it's love or if it isn't.
Don't Rush Me - Taylor Dayne

24. Hey now, hey now
Hear what I say now
Happiness is just around the corner
Hey now, hey now
Hear what I say now
We'll be there for you
We Like To Party - The Vengaboys (The song I will always associate with that creepy old dancing bald guy from the early 2000's Six Flags ad campaign...)

25. And when I hurt
Hurting runs off my shoulder
How can I hurt when I'm holding you
Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond (Or "Goodbye Channel Nine" by the Oklahoma City Gridiron cast.... I still think of that showstopping number every time it hits the Bom-bom-boms...)

Image Bonus: If I got hit by a bus sometime before next January, who would you like to see hosting the 2020 LSWE? (It can be anybody, not just someone on the Bored)

When I was confirming that jarnon had not won an IBB yet while scoring the Thursday game, I noticed that the only other IB player not to win this year was...... Vandal! Despite usually having something funny, he apparently kept getting upstaged by someone else. So I was really rooting for him to put up a good Image Bonus this time and..... well, let's just say the +5 was in the notebook as soon as I saw Steven Tyler's face replaced by a possum. The final IBB goes to Vandal, and every Image Bonus player in the 2019 LSWE can say they're a winner!

jarnon gets a JJC point for replacing me with a bad hockey mascot...

Weasel gets a supermax for Slow Hand in the john and for my favorite LSWE tradition...

AD gets 3 JJC points for The Gnus, poor Timothys, and for the man with the comfy chair...

Lizbit and Wiki get 2 JJC points for knowing as many songs as Miss Sprots did...

Krox gets 2 JJC points for The Newx and for trying to make America great again through the LSWE...

Earl gets a supermax for strippers, getting behind the TBone LSSE movement, and for thinking the All Star Game is in February...

Hottie gets 2 JJC points for thinking of Fanny (Does she even post here anymore?)

Anon gets 3 JJC points for his Stormy and Donny fetish, being insincere just to get a paltry three points, and for having the balls to pick on the meister all year long...

Esto gets 2 JJC points for expecting me to host the LSWE from a full body cast....

melly gets 2 JJC points for the Joe Biden LSWE and for making us wait...

You should check with ghost, they seem to be pretty on the ball about things like that....

Meanwhile, yay for Hottie and tragic suicide songs making her think of me! Then again, I did dedicate a song about silicone humps and ten inch stumps to her...
