Holzhauer

I bet he has a limit, like 5 or 7 mill, at which point he'll "lose".
Well, then

You saying he'll take a dive?

I feel for the other contestants. It's like watching:
- The Washington Generals play the Harlem Globetrotters
- Mercer play Alabama in football
- The 1962 Mets play the 1998 Yankees
- Pee Wee Herman fighting Connor McGregor

That Sports Information Director came awfully close, though.

He's probably going to be the only real threat to Holzhauer until Holzhauer decides he's bored.

Why would he get bored? He's a professional gambler. If he can sit through hours and hours of playing cards, he can certainly sit through games of J!, where the pots are bigger and he doesn't even have to ante up to play.

A misfire on a daily double when matched against another good player would do it. By now, he's lost the element of surprise with his opponents, who should be able to adopt his tactics

I think not yet. My understanding is that virtually all of this season's episodes were taped before his shows started to air. --Bob

One thing is for certain. When he does lose, there will be plenty of hints if not outright spoilers circulating around the Internet. I knew when Ken Jennings was going to lose because of the hints and leaks I picked up on and that was well before today's social-media crazy era.

The show must have all sorts of people contacting them, saying, "Put me on! I can beat him!" Of course, it doesn't work that way.

I'd have given him a good competition 30 years ago.

I watch whenever I'm home, and I always assess the chances of the challengers. So far, I've given one person a good chance, but as always (so far anyway), it didn't work out.

I can't watch tonight. I'll check in later and see how he did.

You need a DVR. :)

Yep, another victory. Apparently Tom Brady said that if James lost today, he would eat a strawberry, for which he has an extreme dislike.

And then there are the ratings:
“The contestant’s most recent set of games, which aired across the first week of May, pulled ‘Jeopardy!’ to an 8.3 rating -- its best showing in 14 years,” TheWrap’s Reid Nakamura wrote before noting that the first half of its “Teacher’s Tournament” fell to a 6.1 Nielsen rating.

It seems many people tuned in to see if Holzhauer wins or loses, and by how much. The huge dip reportedly marks an end to a three-week run as the most-watched show in syndication, which allowed “Judge Judy,” who normally maintains the lead, to retake her spot with a reported 7.0 rating.

And then there's Trebek's illness. I predict that he will not return after the summer break. :(

Apparently, according to USA Today, there is video of the event.

Spoiler
He kept his wager small enough to lock out the third-place player. Given the respective scores, if she wagered to lock him out (which she did) and missed (which she didn't), she'd have fallen below his score. Given how the game had played out, I agree with his choice not to protect against her wagering $0 in Final Jeopardy! because (in my judgment) she was very unlikely to do so.

Spoiler
There was a previous game where Holzhauer could have been beaten had the 2nd place player wagered the max on Final Jeopardy. Neither he or Holzhauer went all in. They both got it right, but had the other guy wagered more, he would have won.
