Carryover contestant
Syimphfinni Armamourne
New York, NY
Musician
No lifelines left.
He used two unique training techniques to get ready for Millionaire, neither involving studying. He got up in the morning and did 100 meter wind sprints up and down his street. The night before (the taping???) he fell asleep to the DVD "The Secret", so he can visualize everything that's going to happen.
Meredith reminds him about Nancy Christy who had used all her lifelines by $16,000 and went on to win a million dollars. (editorial comment-you go girl!).
$25,000
In a procedure that now bears his name, baseball player Tommy John underwent a surgical reconstruction of what ligament in 1974?
A: Anterior cruciate
B: Tibial collateral
C: Dorsal radiocarpal
D: Ulnar collateral
He doesn't know and leaves with $16,000.
Answers:
$25,000

Googling "Tommy John" surgery ligament gives the answer right away, but that's a WWOQ without the lifeline, IMHO.BBTranscriptTeam wrote:

Obviously those "training techniques" didn't help him much - as Nelly (IIRC) predicted, he's one-and-done.BBTranscriptTeam wrote:Transcript May 2, 2008

As for me, I know it was elbow surgery and I know that the radius and the ulna meet at the elbow, so it has to be D.

In the line of "they're all easy if you know the answer", this is not hard if you follow baseball.MarleysGh0st wrote:Googling "Tommy John" surgery ligament gives the answer right away, but that's a WWOQ without the lifeline, IMHO.BBTranscriptTeam wrote:

I agree, I would switch this for Manilow in a Where Else second.Appa23 wrote:In the line of "they're all easy if you know the answer", this is not hard if you follow baseball.MarleysGh0st wrote:Googling "Tommy John" surgery ligament gives the answer right away, but that's a WWOQ without the lifeline, IMHO.BBTranscriptTeam wrote:

As noted, easy if you know the answer so this one was a gimmie for me.
But if you know what joint it is and know a bit of anatomy it can be figured out as only one really makes sense.
But you kinda have to know it is elbow surgery in the first place.
Interesting that they chose to use tibial collateral ligament as one answer rather than what to me is the more common name, the medial collateral ligament.
