FNGD Q5 - Friday May 9, 2008 - Oh! Je T'aime....
Which has little to do with the actual question....
B - Guelph, Ontario was known for the world famous Biltmore brand. Changes in the way men do things, and the brand is far less famous. Still exists, though, largely through the patronage of African-American men.
What does Biltmore make?
G - I learned today that a woman might feel highly pleased at being allowed to spend over 20K dollars, in order to buy a "birkin", from France. Even be happy to be on a waiting list to do this.
In this context, what is a "birkin"?

Well, there it is:
B - Biltmore was at one time synonymous with hats, when every man wore at least one. At a time. And I do believe those cockaded ones were a speciality of the company.
They even called the local hockey team the "Guelph Biltmores". Presumably some corporate support...
G - Birkin is a handbag. I do not know if it was designed initially for Jane Birkin. Of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin fame.
G team wins by a little. Thanks all.

If you asked about Biltmore around here we'd think of Ice Cream from the dairy at George Vanderbilt's Biltmore Estate in Asheville NC. I don't think they make Ice Cream anymore but there is winery there now.
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
