RIP Dianne Odell,
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

If there's one machine or set of machines that needs back-up power generation, its life-support stuff. I always wonder when I read something like this (the link doesn't work as far as I can see, but just the board header is enough) how depressed the victim was. And if they weren't, not having power backup is an incredible shame.

There was backup, but from what I've read, family members couldn't get it working in time. Seems like something that should have automatically kicked in. Maybe that's what didn't work.ghostjmf wrote:If there's one machine or set of machines that needs back-up power generation, its life-support stuff. In my industry, you are not only expected to have backup power, you must test it periodically to make sure it works. And, of course, the test must be documented. I think hospitals have the same requirements.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.
