celebrate our freedom - read a banned book

#1 Post by lilyvonschtupp26 » Wed Oct 10, 2007 6:49 pm

There was a cool gathering in the plaza outside Chicago Tribune Tower last week where people read excerpts from banned books.
here's a short video about the day:

gotta go now. I'm going back to finish "The Earth, my Butt, and other big round things"! It's a great book.

Embrace the Lorax!
Did you know they wanted to ban Little Red Riding Hood because the illustrator put a bottle of wine in the basket for Granny?

Maybe I should re-read the Harry Potter series.

Again.

A few years ago a parent tried to have all Halloween books banned from Emma's elementary school library, but it never happened.

The librarian was ready for a protest about The Higher Power of Lucky, but nobody said anything about it. Emma heard a discussion about various libraries trying to ban the book on NPR and it made her more inclined to want to read it.

I read a book about The Doors once. It was about a band they wanted banned :D

let's just try to work the word "scrotom" into our everyday vocabulary, and then people won't get their shorts in a knot over "The Higher Power of Lucky". I read the book. It was terrific.

Let's celebrate the Lorax, Huckleberry Finn, Big Butts, and Little Red Riding Hood (and of course our lovable wizard Harry!)

good night.

In my official capacity of Forum Moderator, I just want to recommend that if you plan on using that word a lot, you should spell it "scrotum," not "scrotom." As a1mamacat noted, all forum monitors have scrota, so this might be a sensitive subject on the board.

Sometimes mine is more sensitive than other times.
