It's not the cats, stupid.

#1 Post by flockofseagulls104 » Sun Sep 15, 2024 10:54 am

This is what it's about.

I don't know whether the cat story is true or not. Honestly I don't care. The real problem is how the current puppet administration justifies importing 20,000 non-citizens from another country, unvetted, and putting them into a town of 50,000 with absolutely no plan on addressing the problems that result from that.

And the fact that YOUR media, lefties, completely ignore this practice, which is not limited to Springfield, OH, until this cat-eating meme went viral. How do you people sleep at night?

I guess IGNORANCE IS BLISS applies here, as it does to just about everything in your echo chamber. But fine, let's talk about putting tiny houses in people's backyards and ignore the real problem, if that will soothe your consciences. I suspect that will be mandated if you re-elect the swamp. Start building it now and hoping you get assigned decent illegal aliens to live in your backyard or spare bedroom.

Haitian immigrants must have a sponsor and are thoroughly vetted before they’re allowed to live and work in America legally.

The government doesn’t force homeowners to build tiny homes in their backyard for migrants. There are incentive programs for affordable housing, both good and bad, as described in this New York Post article:

Bribing homeowners to build tiny houses won’t solve NYC’s housing problem

I don’t know if the cat story is true or not. I’ll assume it is at some level. Maybe only one cat, maybe four. Who cares. It’s true if it’s one, but not necessarily a huge issue.

However, to claim 15,000 -20,000 people, mostly unskilled all of a sudden have sponsors in a community of 50,000 is as absurd as anything ever posted here. And where the heck are the going to get jobs?

Except it was the cats that were brought up, not that other stuff.

It’s self evident in anytime you bring new people, there will be difficulties and adjustments.

But by all accounts these people also want to work and their jobs for them.

Trump’s plan to chase immigrants away would be devastating for the economy. It would not magically reopen some factory.

That’s the worst part about this, and why racist like you’re so terrible. Our population growth during recent years is arguably a big reason why our economy stayed afloat despite inflation.

Your guy wants to chase away folks and put up tariffs, which will inevitably make prices much worse.

But you’re OK with that, because of the supposed cat eating.

That is self-defeating, but that’s been the motto of the entitled white middle-class of this country for some time.

Nobody wants to chase away legal immigrants. Your problem is when you see something good, you put no boundries on it. Immigration is good. Therefore any kind of immigration is good. No restrictions. Which is dumb.

It’s an unfortunate fact that politics determines who is legal. Trump stopped legal immigration from some Muslim countries (which he promised and his voters wanted him to do). Now refugees from Cuba, Venezuela and Haiti get preferential treatment. In a second Trump term, Stephen Miller could decide Haitians don’t deserve this and admit more Ukrainians instead. Or JD Vance may overrule him, saying they should stay in Putin-dominated Ukraine.

We used to have a system that decided how many foreign nationals could be admitted into this country, and we investigated and knew who they were and where they were. Why has that been abandoned? And I don't think it is disputed by anyone that we have no idea how many foreign nationals have entered into this country in the past several years, who they are and where they are.

Anyone care to discuss this instead of all the distractors?

The last comprehensive immigration law passed in 1986. Obviously the world has changed bigly since then: many of our Communist enemies are now NATO allies. In 2003, the Homeland Security Act created DHS and ICE. It didn’t change the criteria for legal immigration or provide the resources to quickly adjudicate who qualifies under the old rules.

Numerous attempts to modernize immigration have failed. Until recently, they included a path to citizenship for people who have lived here since childhood. The last bill dropped that provision, and it still couldn’t get through Congress. So each administration has to adapt the antiquated law to changing circumstances.

A fraternity brother of mine, who has done very well for himself apparently, is about 2/3 of a sailing trip around the world. He is participating in the World ARC Rally or something. Its a group of boat owners sailing around the world in their own boats. My friend Garland and his wife are sailing in their own boat. Just the two of them.

Anyway, they just left Austraila, heading for Indonesia. He posted the below a coupld days ago
Something to ponder. Not a political statement. We are sailing West off the Northern coast of Australia on a 1000 nm leg between Papau New Guinea and Indonesia. Not a day goes by that we are not buzzed by Australian border officials in aircraft or hear them talking to others on the VHF radio. You must identify yourself, your last port of call, your destination, your home port and country of registration. I have sailed along the borders of the USA from Rhode Island to Florida and along the Mexican border no fewer than 10,000 nm. I have never been initially contacted by the border patrol in the USA.
We are the only developed country that does not effectily protect its borders. Or fully screen immigrants.

What's really wild is they are actually making the attempt.

And, are you inferring you are in favor of controlling inflow, if possible? It's just that you don't believe it's possible because we have 10,000 LESS miles of border (Continental US vs mainlance Australia)?

But not all simple concepts. For example, I was able to figure out that swimming across ocean water is a lot different than crossing over land, and that you’d have to be an idiot to think they were comparable.

Never said they were comparable, but you, initially indicated that because our borders may be more difficult to protect is an excuse for why we aren't doing it, or even trying. My friend's post, absolutely no contact with the Coast Guard. None, nada, zip.

Yet, you turned around and acted like the circumferential distance around Australia was a meaningful number. This is akin to you arguing, neener neener, that Trump didn’t need to do a second debate with the actual Democrat running for president because he had already debated Joe Biden in June. Meaningless technicalities instead of debating the issue…

We are the only developed country that does not effectily protect its borders. Or fully screen immigrants.
I'll bet the Coast Guard contacted them.
Like most everything else...you're wrong. Read his quote. He is not a political guy. He was, if anything, just expression the frustration, and maybe a little nervousness about the Australian authorities.
How is Bob wrong? I know little about the Coast Guard, but based on these posts I’m willing to put money up that he’s right.

This guy didn’t say he’s “not a political guy.” He said “something to ponder … not a political statement.”

And he mentioned Border Patrol only. Nothing about the Coast Guard.

Not that it matters, but I’m also guessing that you don’t know this guy very well. Am I wrong?

Not trying to suggest that this is like Flock’s imaginary friend in South Texas, but still.

Really funny that your take would be that he was just expressing frustration and a little nervousness about the Australian authorities. Nothing political. That says a lot.

Bob is the one who didn’t make a political statement.

More anecdotal data. The Australian Border Force (ABF), which combines border control, coast guard duties, and customs, comprises about 6,000 staff, according to wikipedia. The US Customs and Border Protection Agency, which doesn't include the Coast Guard, has over 60,000 employees. I don't doubt your friend's observation, but I am equally sure that whenever he sailed the coast of the US, the Coast Guard knew exactly where he was and what his business was. He didn't need to be contacted by border control, because that function was handled by another agency. I also wonder how many countries and jurisdictions he sailed near on that 1000 nm trip from Papua New Guinea to Indonesia, as opposed to how many he encountered between Florida and Rhode Island.

There is no doubt that we need to update our immigration policy. Unfortunately, politicians have seen fit to prolong the problems as a wedge issue rather than try to actually solve them.

As to your last sentence, well, I don't think you'd want to make that statement anywhere where money depended on it.

How is it that every time Mr. Stable Genius gets himself into the deepest of deep shit, a pussy is involved somewhere? It's absolutely incredible.
