My main grain of "Dad" wisdom that I have passed onto my kids is that "Farmers always say they love the land, but they don't, they love their machinery."
The wind erosion happening out here is approaching 1930's proportions as we are turning the land to dust again. Great-grandpa learned from his mistakes and put in windbreaks and such and now we are tearing them out because they make it harder to farm with our big machinery.
I believe that farmers have forfeited their rights on erosion control and somebody needs to step in-oddly enough, the way big agriculture is squealing about RFK Jr and some of the possible nominees for Trump Agriculture Secretary-we might get policies more along those lines from a Republican than a Democrat Admin.
Lord knows-Biden-Harris did nothing on that front.

Not speaking from jealousy, but they would accuse me of that as they are the wealthiest farmers-but the worst are the sugarbeet farmers. Sugarbeets are the worst crop for the land as the processes necessary to produce them inherently turn the land to dust.Weyoun wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 6:53 amGreat to here. Seriously. Big sugar has great political influence. They’re proud of it: “The sugar industry is one of the most effective and efficient groups on Capitol Hill because farmers and processors understand the importance of political action and education.” Luckily for consumers, the Midwestern sugar beet industry faces competition from Southern sugar cane growers. Indeed, a driver of U.S. anti-Cuba policy (besides Communism and oppression) is competition with the Cuban sugar industry,

I had to chuckle a little bit as I just read a story about a farmer who died and it talked about the various tractors and such that he had"
It caused me to feflect that It is extremely common to see in a farmer's obit or eulogy or wherever how much he liked a certain type of tractor and that type of thing.
I have never once seen anything about how he loved a particular parcel of land that he (for example) bought when he was 25 or anything about that at all.
OTOH-In my obit-you could put a particular piece of ground in it-and I think I will do that now that I have thought of it.

Supermarkets around here sell Passover Coke (with a yellow bottle cap) in the spring. It has real sugar because some Jews don’t consume corn products during Passover. It sells out quickly because it tastes better.

Call me stupid all you want. I have been called deplorable, a nazi, a racist, garbage and on and on by people who have a much wider audience than you. And even worse by jerks on this bored. It's a great all-around argument to any topic for people who otherwise have no rational response. And for people like you, who have the narcissistic notion that they know better than anyone else, past or present. The problem is, communism is a specific ideology that deals with the state ownership of capital. No one you are criticizing is actually advocating that... because you’re a stupid person.
Nobody in this country who wants to get elected to anything is going to state openly that they want state ownership of capital or even hint of it. But there are many who have gotten themselves into positions of power that have that as a goal to one degree or another. And they either hire or appoint people who openly support that 'Transformation'.
Our country was founded as a federation of the states. The Founders did not want a King, and they also did not all power concentrated in the federal government they created. They wanted the separate states to govern their own affairs much like separate countries, and the Federal government existed only to tie them together in the areas that were deemed necessary. They specified those areas in a document called the Constitution, and specifically said that all other areas not addressed in that document were reserved to the states and to the people.
But over the years, the federal government has managed to acquire and consolidate powers it was never intended to have. And many in your party and the uniparty want to keep expanding that power, removing it from the states and the people.
If you are claiming that there are no people in the federal government bureaucracy that are advocating communism, you have your head in the sand, however 'smart' you think you are. The colleges and universities in this country have been indoctrinating their students for decades now that communism is a valid, beneficial option. And many of those indoctrinated people now inhabit the halls of the Washington DC swamp.
The so-called MAGA movement, the child of the Tea Party movement, is a reaction to that trend OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE. And we are, at least for now, ascendant. That is why the swamp leaders call us all these names. And why you call me stupid, when you know that is a defense mechanism on your part.

Chris Wright is Energy Secretary nominee.
I hadn't heard of him before, but I like what I have been reading.
So at this point-Hegseth and Wright are my 2 favorite nominees.

Speaking of picks with ties to the Dakotas-
I had heard a couple of days ago in commentary on Burgum that Wright had spoken at the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference so I am guessing that some of his business is done in the Bakken.

If I’m following the screenshots correctly, the person suggesting this use a five-year average to show a baseline, then did the 2021 year to suggest that the Covid Vaccine has something to do with that. That’s some bad methodology. I would use a five-year average and a five-year average. Using one year is almost by definition cherry picking.flockofseagulls104 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 12:20 pmI'm a stupid person.

There is a bump in myocarditis, which I would expect. The Guillan Barre number was actually surprisingly low, and that’s a widely expected vaccine complication.
As I’ve said before, there was reason to think the Covid vaccine would trigger myocarditis, but Covid itself would trigger it even more, so I’m not surprised by that number, nor would I think it would point away against vaccine use.
On the other hand, it seems extremely unlikely that you would get a vaccine and develop a gastric or intestinal cancer within the same calendar year that would be detected.
The vast majority of intestinal cancers are indolent and people have them for sometime before getting tested.
And really, the mechanism for a cancer in the G.I. track being triggered by a vaccine is not likely. These usually start in the lumen of the track and their exposure from something, usually some food that’s not good for you. That’s been ingested year after year - for example, smoked foods are associated with stomach cancer. You have to have some kind of trigger to alter cell development with an ongoing influence to help accelerate it.
What you post gets to the ongoing mystery with colon cancer, which is been noticed more and more in recent years. Well before the Covid vaccine. Probably another example here.
This gets to the frustrating thing with RFK, as well as dealing with idiots like you. There’s a real reason to think that something is causing an increase in colon cancer. Perhaps just the lack of dietary fiber, but we’re not sure. Vaccines don’t have anything to do with that. There’s no reason to think based on their mechanism. So with RK expresses concerned with the food supply, he’s correct. I think something out there is promoting colon cancer. When he goes off on vaccines so that morons you get excited, he’s tragically wrong.
You asked for my opinion. You got it.

We were talking about not using words we (you) didn't understand, and since none one was saying "Stalinist," I can't really be accused of throwing that word around. "Lysenko" was said as a direct comment to our farmer, who probably would have qualms about the government telling him that he's been farming all wrong this whole time.
Perhaps one day the current infiltration of communist ideas in the US government will be given a nickname. But go right ahead nitpicking on the minutia.
I will say that the level of your arguments would be similar to the democrats strategy on the nominations they oppose. "You're a poophead and you don't know anything!"
On the other hand, fascism promotes the idea that we have strong man leader, and to dispense with the niceties of democracy. And you’ve done that in this very thread! You stated that you thought nomination hearings were too noisy and democratic, and strong man Trump should simply be able to install anyone that he wants, without any sort of check. That’s actually fascism!
(it’s also lousy for Trump. Personally, if I were him, I would actually want to know whether or not my defense nominee raped somebody, or if my Attorney General committed sexual assault multiple times, unless it becomes an inconvenience for Trump later.)
Likewise, Spock pumping up the qualifications of someone just because they served in the military has at least a whiff of fascism. Oddly, General Mattis, who never got that kind of praise from him, would seemly be even more qualified, but my point is, the current nominee has a lot of problems, but we’re told to shut up, and that he served in the military, so we’re not allowed to criticize things. That certainly smells of fascism.
Do you see how I correlated current events with a political definition? From the respective definitions of democracy and republicanism. As defined by you, IIRC. But if not, you say the MAGA movement is "by the people of the people for the people." And the elected representatives are usually either the "deep state," the "swamp," or the "Dems and RINOs" trying to defeat the purpose of the people. Pretty much the epitome of pure democracy, and the antithesis of republicanism. Do you not agree?flockofseagulls104 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 9:28 pmWhere do you get that from?mrkelley23 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 8:48 pmYour description of the MAGA movement sounds a lot like pure democracy.
For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled. -- Richard Feynman

The last five responses or so have been pretty stupid and painful to read. Not mrkelley, obv, who seems to try, in vain, to stay above all this horseshit.

Your description of the MAGA movement sounds a lot like pure democracy. Does that mean you're no longer a fan of the republican form of government?

Is someone making you read? Perhaps you need a 'sub-lounge,' if you will, where you can pontificate for your little friends. Make it private, so you won't be bothered by the womenfolk, and others with whom you disagree. At least that way, some of the abject stupidity will be contained.
