"Go Back to Univision" Says the Donald

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Tue Aug 25, 2015 10:17 pm

Thus speaketh Donald Trump to Jorge Ramos, the anchor for Univision, who got booted out of Trump's press conference last night. At least, Trump let Ramos back in, which is more than he did for the Des Moines Register, the largest daily newspaper in the state, which was denied access to Trump's press conference in Dubuque.

I keep thinking that all this is a ploy by the Republicans, much like professional wrestling, to build Trump up as the heel so that somewhere down the line, some "face" can put him in his place and restore some sense of dignity to the party. But then I realize that boat sailed years ago.

I would have kicked him out and not let him back in. Trump was fielding questions and Ramos simply starting talking over the person that was given the floor to ask a question. He would not shut up. It is a pattern by him. He does not think societal protocols apply to him or his people. You want to talk? Me first. Waiting in line? Screw you, I'll go first. He and his illegal immigrant supporters.

I don't know if anybody here is familiar with the term "ratf**king", but I keep wanting to think that Trump's presence in the clown car is a brilliant plot by some Republican operative to ratf**k themselves out of office in 2016 so that the sane people can reclaim the Republican Party from the racists, misogynists, xenophobes, and fascists in 2017.

And if a Democratic operative is responsible for Trump's rise to prominence, in much the same way that Sen. Claire McCaskill secretly promoted Todd "Legitimate Rape" Akin in Missouri's Republican primary in 2012, then that would be true ratf**king.

I keep wondering if Trump is a plant, saying these things just like wrestling managers do so that, at some point, one of his opponents will have a "Margaret Chase Smith moment" when she told off Joe McCarthy on the Senate floor. Key quote:
[T]o displace [the Democratic party] with a Republican regime embracing a philosophy that lacks political integrity or intellectual honesty would prove equally disastrous to this nation. The nation sorely needs a Republican victory. But I don't want to see the Republican Party ride to political victory on the Four Horsemen of Calumny -- Fear, Ignorance, Bigotry and Smear. I doubt if the Republican Party could -- simply because I don't believe the American people will uphold any political party that puts political exploitation above national interest".
Don't hold your breath waiting for such a moment here, because people like Smith, Eisenhower, and Everett Dirksen had intelligence and integrity, two qualities sorely lacking in today's Republican party. In fact, a Margaret Chase Smith today would be hounded by all the Rush Limbaugh types as a femiNazi RINO.
Instead, the rest of the Republican candidates are trying to figure out ways to get Trump's supporters on board by promoting their own, slightly more sanitized version of Trump's agenda, while still plausibly denying to the general public that's what they're doing.

Whenever I wonder if Trump has a serious shot at winning, I just remember 2 words:

AF winning in Mondale-land was not so much of a head scratcher.
AS winning in Blue State CA is more of an indication of how celebrity-ness and bluster can enthrall an electorate.

I keep forgetting, who's President these days?
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Guy kept speaking out of turn....not sure what else Trump could have done.

That wasn't what killed him- his aide with the "get out of my country" crack- to an American citizen- will kill him with most mainstream American voters.

Might be red meat for those to whom Trump is appealing, though.

Truthfully, what do you think of race relations in this country now vs. 2007?

I think a lot of issues that used to fly below the radar are now getting some much needed light.

But I didn't vote for him because I expected miracles in race relations. And he's gotten a lot more decisions right than his opponents would have. From Supreme Court appointments, to resisting misguided austerity policies that would have done to our recovery what the actuality did in Europe, to finding a way to get us much closer to universal health care.

Hell, when President Obama first took office, "don't ask, don't tell" was still the law of the land. Look at where we are now. --Bob
