Lyrically Speaking - 2/27/24

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Feb 27, 2024 8:20 am

If anyone should be getting prescient points in the LSWE, it should be me for scheduling this game for what's shaping up to be a very rare 80+ degree day in February!

Image

But of course, with this being the Midwest, it's possible I'll be scraping snow off my car when I get off work in the morning. From take off your shirt early summer weather to wind chills in the teens in just a few hours. If you don't like the weather, just wait and it'll change....

Oh yeah, the game. This is the final Tuesday Hidden Wordplay of the season, and the key word that can be found in the lyrics to all of these songs is a fitting one for today...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

Leave the BOLDED word in #2 BOLDED if you cut and paste!

1. Slow motion riders fly the colors of the day
A bronze man still can tell stories his own way
Listen children all is not lost
All is not lost, oh no, no

2. When I was just a little boy
Standin' to my Daddy's knee
My Papa said "Son, don't let the man get you
And do what he done to me?

3. Remember dancin' at the high school hop?
The dress I ruined with the soda pop?
I didn't recognize the girl next door
With beat up sneakers and a ponytail

4. Looking around the house
Hidden behind the window and the door
Searching for signs of life, but there's nobody home

5. Pour me somethin' tall an' strong
Make it a Hurricane before I go insane

6. Things are okay with me these days
Got a good job, I got a good office
I got a new wife, got a new life
And the family's fine

7. From the park I hear rhythms
Marley's hot on the box
Tonight there will be a party
On the corner at the end of the block

8. Well, he must've thought that it was quite a joke
And I got a lot of laughs from a lots of folk
Seems I had to fight my whole life through

9. Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?

10. Each time I find myself
Flat on my face
I pick myself up and get
Back in the race

11. Mirror, mirror on the wall
Shovel chestnuts in my path
Just keep all nuts twistin' up
So I don't get an aftermath

12. Jennifer's got her daddy's car,
She's playing "Uptown" on the stereo
We go cruisin' so close,
The way they did long ago

This picture reminds me of events I’ll never forget. A week before the bicentennial, terrorists hijacked a passenger plane and forced it to fly to Entebbe, Uganda, where Idi Amin welcomed them. My rabbi gave a sermon the day before the holiday, encouraging us to celebrate the historic occasion despite our worry for the hostages. My uncle had invited us to his office on the 16th floor of the World Trade Center, which as you can see, had an excellent view of the tall ships. That night, my father was called to work at Time magazine, a sure sign that a big story was breaking, and soon we heard about the daring rescue by IDF commandos. Dad returned home early in the morning, and to our surprise said “Let’s go see the ships.” The mood of the Israelis and Americans there was doubly festive. Below us was an Israeli gunboat (one of the small boats in the image), with sailors at attention as the tall ships sailed past.

Spoiler
1. Slow motion riders fly the colors of the day
A bronze man still can tell stories his own way
Listen children all is not lost
All is not lost, oh no, no

Saturday in the Park - Chicago

2. When I was just a little boy
Standin' to my Daddy's knee
My Papa said "Son, don't let the man get you
And do what he done to me?

Born on the Bayou - CCR

3. Remember dancin' at the high school hop?
The dress I ruined with the soda pop?
I didn't recognize the girl next door
With beat up sneakers and a ponytail

Beach Baby - First Class

Remember those record compilations that were always airing advertisements on at like 3am (not K-Tel, but something similar). They were based out of Colorado Springs and banked at the institution where my mom worked, so we got a discount. I bought some huge fucking three or four record album of beach crap, just because it has this song on itl

4. Looking around the house
Hidden behind the window and the door
Searching for signs of life, but there's nobody home

Good - Better Than Ezra

Although Ezra was pretty damned good in his own right...

5. Pour me somethin' tall an' strong
Make it a Hurricane before I go insane

Five O'Clock Somewhere - Alan Jackson

with an assist from Jimmy Buffett, probably one of the first guest features in C&W

6. Things are okay with me these days
Got a good job, I got a good office
I got a new wife, got a new life
And the family's fine

7. From the park I hear rhythms
Marley's hot on the box
Tonight there will be a party
On the corner at the end of the block

Master Blaster - Stevie Wonder

As opposed to Master of Puppets. My little niece and nephew were always screaming at Alexa to play Master Blaster and then going WTF? Nothing more highlarious than 6 and 8 years olds screaming out all of the lyrics, especially when they refused to believe they were the wrong words (I think they were confusing Stranger Things with Mad Max Thunderdome....

8. Well, he must've thought that it was quite a joke
And I got a lot of laughs from a lots of folk
Seems I had to fight my whole life through

Boy Named Sue - Shel Silverstein

Yeah, he's up there with Hoyt and JJ....

9. Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?

Firework - Katy Perry

10. Each time I find myself
Flat on my face
I pick myself up and get
Back in the race

That's Life - Frank Sinatra

I can never hear this and not picture Joaquin Phoenix with that creepy.....I don't know, dancing? Also done by DLR, although I think his best throwback was Just a GIgolo/I Ain't Got Nobody medley.
Although the latter brings back memories of a shampoo commercial that tied in with an embarrassing incident in grade school...

11. Mirror, mirror on the wall
Shovel chestnuts in my path
Just keep all nuts twistin' up
So I don't get an aftermath

Me Myself & I - De La Soul

Thanks, I've been singing "can it be my de la clothes" for long than I'd care to...

12. Jennifer's got her daddy's car,
She's playing "Uptown" on the stereo
We go cruisin' so close,
The way they did long ago

Make Me Lose Control - Eric Carmen

July

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that has the key word of the day somewhere in the lyrics, but not the title.

Walking the Dog - Aerosmith

Yeah, I could have pussed out and gone with Sedaka, but I don't think I actually own that one. And I swear I fucking wore out the grooves on Aerosmith's first album....
